The Organization First Commerce Bank is one of north-central Kansas’ most respected independent community banks. Since opening its doors in 2002, the bank has grown organically from a de novo institution into a highly successful $140 million community bank with offices in Marysville and Blue Rapids, Kansas. The bank has remained true to the vision of its founders: building lasting customer relationships, making sound lending decisions locally, supporting the agricultural community, and operating with integrity. As the founders prepare for a thoughtful leadership transition, First Commerce Bank is seeking a President who will preserve the bank’s strong culture while leading its next chapter of sustainable growth. The Opportunity This is more than a succession opportunity. It is a chance to become part of a community, lead a talented and experienced team, and steward a bank that has earned tremendous trust throughout the region. Most community bank leadership opportunities arise because a bank is struggling, preparing for a sale, or facing significant organizational challenges. This is not one of them. First Commerce Bank has spent more than two decades building something special. The incoming President will not be asked to fix a broken culture or execute a turnaround. Instead, this leader will have the rare opportunity to succeed visionary founders who have intentionally created a thoughtful succession plan and are committed to ensuring the next leader has every opportunity to succeed. For the right community banker, this role offers the opportunity to preserve a successful legacy while helping shape the bank’s future. The Position The President will provide strategic and operational leadership for First Commerce Bank while remaining closely connected to customers, employees, shareholders, the Board, and the community. This leader will work closely with the Board and ownership during a planned transition before assuming responsibility for the overall leadership of the organization. The foundation is exceptionally strong. The expectation is not to reinvent the bank, but to thoughtfully build upon what has made it successful. The President will lead from the front, make sound local decisions, maintain strong credit discipline, support team development, and continue the relationship-driven approach that defines community banking. The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is an accomplished community banking leader who believes banking is still fundamentally about people, relationships, sound credit, and serving the communities where you live and work. This person understands local decision-making, relationship lending, and the trust that comes from serving customers across multiple generations. They bring meaningful agricultural and commercial lending experience, strong credit judgment, and the ability to balance growth with prudent risk management. Just as important, the successful candidate will bring the character traits that matter deeply to First Commerce Bank: humility, hunger, and emotional intelligence. This leader should be humble enough to listen first, earn trust, and put the institution ahead of personal recognition; hungry enough to grow the bank, develop people, and continuously improve; and smart in both business judgment and interpersonal relationships. This role is ideal for a servant leader who enjoys coaching people, developing talent, building long-term relationships, and creating an environment where employees enjoy coming to work and serving customers. Key Responsibilities Strategic and Operational Leadership Provide strategic and operational leadership for a profitable $140 million independent community bank. Partner closely with the Board of Directors and ownership on strategic planning, governance, succession, and long-term direction. Ensure the bank remains financially strong, well-managed, and focused on exceptional customer service. Team Leadership and Culture Lead, support, and develop an experienced team of approximately 14 employees across two locations. Mentor and develop future leaders while preserving the bank’s collaborative, team-oriented culture. Create an environment rooted in trust, accountability, service, and shared commitment to the bank’s customers and communities. Credit Culture and Risk Management Continue building a strong credit culture centered on sound underwriting, disciplined growth, and prudent risk management. Maintain strong credit judgment across agricultural, agricultural production, residential real estate, commercial, and consumer lending. Ensure lending decisions reflect the bank’s commitment to local relationships, financial strength, and long-term stability. Customer and Community Relationships Maintain and strengthen customer relationships throughout the market. Represent First Commerce Bank throughout the communities it serves through civic involvement, relationship building, and visible leadership. Continue the bank’s reputation for personal service, accessibility, integrity, and local decision-making. Growth and Long-Term Stewardship Support continued sustainable growth across key lending and banking relationships. Preserve the bank’s successful legacy while identifying thoughtful opportunities for continued improvement. Lead with a stewardship mindset that values relationships as much as results. Qualifications Required Experience Executive leadership experience within a community bank or comparable financial institution. Significant agricultural lending experience and commercial lending experience. Strong credit judgment and demonstrated ability to balance growth with disciplined risk management. Strong knowledge of community banking operations, credit, compliance, and regulatory expectations. Demonstrated success leading teams, developing people, and building trust across an organization. Experience working with, reporting to, or partnering closely with a Board of Directors. Strong communication, relationship-building, and decision-making skills. High level of integrity, humility, professionalism, and accountability. Preferred Experience Prior President, Market President, Chief Lending Officer, senior lender, or executive banking leadership experience. Deep understanding of agricultural markets and rural community banking. Established ability to build relationships with customers, employees, shareholders, regulators, and community leaders. Bachelor’s degree preferred; advanced banking education is a plus. Key Success Metrics Smooth and trusted leadership transition from the bank’s founders to the next President. Preservation of First Commerce Bank’s strong culture, reputation, and relationship-driven approach. Continued financial strength, profitability, and sound bank management. Strong credit quality, disciplined underwriting, and prudent portfolio growth. Retention, engagement, and development of the bank’s experienced employee team. Strength and continuity of customer relationships across Marysville, Blue Rapids, and surrounding communities. Alignment with the Board of Directors and ownership on strategic direction, governance, and succession. Visible, trusted leadership presence in the community. Continued growth across agricultural, residential real estate, commercial and consumer lending. About Marysville, Kansas Marysville offers something increasingly difficult to find: a place where community still matters. Located in north-central Kansas, Marysville combines an outstanding quality of life with excellent schools, strong civic pride, and a thriving agricultural economy. Residents enjoy a safe environment, short commutes, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact both professionally and personally. For candidates relocating to the area, Marysville and the surrounding communities offer the best of community banking life: close relationships, local decision-making, strong agricultural roots, and the ability to become deeply involved in the place you serve. For the right leader, this role offers more than career advancement. It offers the chance to become an integral part of a community where relationships matter, and leadership makes a visible difference. #J-18808-Ljbffr
