Veterinary Technician - Lead Full‑Time, 12‑hour shifts Rockville, MD Metropolitan Animal Emergency and Specialty Center, a Thrive Pet Healthcare partner, is looking for a Lead Veterinary Technician to join our team. About You As a Lead Veterinary Technician, you will play an important role in pets' lives by providing comprehensive care throughout their journey. Your work will encompass hands‑on care of outpatient treatments, performing laboratory tests, assisting in surgery, and supporting services including admission and discharge of patients. Experience & Skills Requirements Veterinary technician licensure strongly preferred but not required; LVT/CVT/RVT/LVMT encouraged to apply. 2‑3 years of clinical experience as a veterinary technician or assistant required. Must have Emergency Veterinary clinical experience. Strong communication skills required. An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program preferred; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Proficiency in phlebotomy; ability to obtain, prepare, and interpret laboratory samples (blood, feces, urine, skin, etc.). Confidence in IVC placement and maintenance. Proficiency in blood smears, cytology preparation, and interpretation. Familiarity with common radiographic positioning techniques and image capture. Familiarity with CPR; candidates with RECOVER BLS/ALS certification encouraged to apply. Experience and confidence in administering anesthesia and monitoring patients during anesthetic events. Role Responsibilities Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients. Assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow across all hospital functions. Assist with surgeries and procedures in accordance with state Veterinary Practice Act for credentialed veterinary technicians. Communicate with clients about pet health concerns and offer guidance on Thrive Membership options, medications, and treatments. Assist in maintaining comprehensive medical records using practice systems. Obtain relevant health history and information from clients and maintain medical charts. Use safe restraining techniques, follow standard protocols, and maintain clean, sterile, and organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs. Guide, mentor, and support fellow team members.
