Job Description - Accounting Coordinator (2600005I) Position Grade: 15G Department: Multiple Departments Job Type: Full-Time (Permanent) Examination Number: EX1600 Location: St. Louis, MO Essential Functions and Responsibilities Makes and maintains financial and accounting systems for a specific program, agency or department; inputs data into the computer system. Summarizes, analyzes and records all financial transactions; reconciles accounts. Processes financial information such as payroll, pensions, and contracts. Assists with the preparation of budget, including summarizing the operating budget by line-item detail and allocating budget to various departments. Calculates financial data such as depreciation estimates, fixed assets, interest charges and related items. Reconciles accounts each month; reviews reports for balances and accuracy; makes corrections. Responds to audit findings and resolves problems related to a particular fiscal function. Communicates with other departments or agencies to request and distribute financial data. Coordinates special projects as needed. May explain work processes and train others, such as new employees, in the same or similar job title. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Data utilization – performs mid‑level data analysis, audits, deduces, assesses, and appraises information. Human interaction – provides guidance, assistance, and interpretation to others on how to apply policies, procedures, and standards. Equipment, machinery, tools and materials use – operates and maneuvers equipment such as a computer, calculator, or other tools. Verbal aptitude – utilizes various reference, descriptive, and advisory data such as financial statements, technical operating manuals, balance reports, contracts, inventories, policies, and non‑routine correspondence. Mathematical aptitude – performs addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, calculates percentages and decimals, and basic algebra; interprets descriptive statistics. Functional reasoning – applies principles of influence systems such as planning, coordinating, and controlling; exercises independent judgment to develop approaches for problem resolution. Situational reasoning – exercises judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in evaluating information against subjective criteria. Environmental factors – work normally performed in an office environment with minimal risk. Physical requirements – light physical effort; may involve lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects up to ten pounds. Sensory requirements – recognizes and identifies similarities or differences in colors, shapes, and sounds associated with job‑related objects and tasks. Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a Business degree with a minimum of 30 credit hours in Accounting; plus two years of professional accounting experience. Preference: Certification as a CPA (Certified Public Accountant). Veteran's Preference Points To be eligible for veteran’s preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of their DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or upon request. The Director of Personnel may, at their discretion, accept alternate documentation. City Residence Preference Points City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points. City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
