About the Role:We are looking for a motivated engineer to interface with our suppliers and team members on our Supplier Quality Team. The candidate should have process and implementation experience in manufacturing. This position has the opportunity for 30-60% annual travel. Travel will be mainly within the US and Canada and will average around 2 days a week. Selected candidate should also expect to spend time in our Saginaw facility as needed. Key ResponsibilitiesAs the Supplier Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for: Review & approve supplier quality plans to meet new product and submission requirements using standard APQP and PPAP methodsFunction as a liaison between Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing, and suppliers to resolve quality issues and to provide technical supportConduct in depth product and process reviews of the existing supply base to both Nexteer and OEM standardsDetermine cause of supplier quality issues through structured problem-solving methods and coordinate/implement effective and timely solutionsDetermine part critical characteristics and required process controlsImprove quality performance of suppliers by conducting workshops at supplier locationsProvide technical expertise and assistance to develop and improve supplier quality systems and optimize the processesImplement and monitor the part qualification and certification process with selected suppliersMaintain required documentation and filesProvide technical support and expertise in the error-provoking design of toolingProvide technical support and expertise in the design of gauges both variable and attributeProvide technical support and expertise to the product engineer in the manufacturability of their designsQualifications2+ years of relevant engineering or quality experienceProficient oral and written communication skillsStrong relationship building skillsProficient in print reading, interpretation, and part measurementKnowledge of geometric design and tolerance and gage design tolerance preferredKnowledge of statistical quality control and design of experimentsMinitab proficiency preferredDemonstrated ability to optimize processes and materials by identifying potential defects before tools are builtKnowledge of industry supplier quality standards, policies and procedures preferredDemonstrated ability to investigate quality problems and apply sound technical judgment towards developing possible solutions preferredHigh level of interpersonal skills to effectively lead, motivate and facilitate others in group situations and instruct others in new techniquesHigh level of analytical ability to assess and identify appropriate alternative courses of action for definition and resolution of problems that are unique and diverseAbility and willingness to travel to Nexteer locations and supplier locations as requiredAbility to prioritize work with only limited direction from supervisorStrong knowledge and understanding of manufacturing processes Education RequirementsBachelor’s degree or 5+ years of manufacturing experience Nexteer is an Equal Opportunity Employer Disabled/Minorities/Veterans/WomenNexteer is an E-Verify employer.
