Step into a rewarding contract role supporting elementary students in a specialized setting, located near Waukegan, IL. This opportunity is perfect for passionate educators seeking to make a difference in a self-contained classroom for grades 4 and 5, working with a close-knit group of 7–8 students. The classroom is part of a dedicated building that fosters collaboration among those focused on self-contained programming.
The position starts August 17, 2026, with the chance to attend a new teacher orientation in early August if hired promptly. The contract runs through May 28, 2027, covering 35 hours per week and a 30-minute daily lunch break. Typical staff hours are 8:05 AM to 3:35 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and until 3:50 PM on Wednesdays.
Qualifications & Preferred Experience:
- Active Special Education Teaching license, with LBSI endorsement strongly preferred
- Previous experience teaching in self-contained elementary settings
- Familiarity with Unique Learning System or STAR curriculum is highly advantageous
- Strong classroom management skills and a compassionate approach to supporting students with diverse needs
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, paired with a team-oriented mindset
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver tailored instruction to students in a self-contained classroom, focusing on individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Collaborate with other educators and support staff to ensure student success
- Track and report progress, making data-driven instructional adjustments
- Cultivate a nurturing and structured environment for academic, social, and emotional growth
