Library and Media Specialist Job ID: 5741322 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Posted: May 27, 2026 4:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: Aug 24, 2026 Position Type: Full‑Time Salary: $57,727 to $124,666 Per Year Job Details Location: Brophy Elementary School – Framingham, Massachusetts School Year: 2026-2027 Qualifications Degree: Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education or related field required; Master’s Degree preferred License: Valid Massachusetts Teaching License in Library (All Levels) Experience: Proven track record of delivering high‑quality instruction and managing a diverse classroom; experience in a school district or educational setting required Language Proficiency: Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese preferred Skills and Ability Differentiated Instruction: Design and implement Tier 1 and Tier 2 instructional interventions for students with IEPs, 504 plans, and English Language Learners Data‑Driven Decision Making: Analyze standardized and formative assessment data to track student growth and adjust instructional delivery Social‑Emotional Learning (SEL): Integrate SEL frameworks into daily routines to support the whole child and foster a safe, inclusive, trauma‑informed classroom culture Content Pedagogy & Foundational Skills: Deep knowledge of evidence‑based instructional practices to ensure mastery of core concepts Restorative Practices: Use restorative justice and conflict transformation techniques to manage classroom behavior and resolve peer conflicts Curriculum Alignment: Align daily lesson plans with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district‑wide goals Adaptive Technology Integration: Master instructional technology (Google Classroom, interactive whiteboards, educational software) to enhance engagement and accessibility Collaborative Leadership: Work effectively within Professional Learning Communities and multidisciplinary teams (special education, ESL, mental health staff) Cultural Proficiency: Foster an equitable and inclusive environment for all staff, students, and families Professionalism & Composure: Maintain punctual attendance and professionalism in high‑stakes or unpredictable situations Essential Duties and Responsibilities I. Planning, Preparation, and Instruction Collaborate with classroom teachers to design, teach, and assess learning experiences that incorporate inquiry, information literacy, and critical thinking Promote a love of reading and lifelong learning through collection curation and student engagement Teach advanced search techniques, including online engines, specialized databases, and catalog searching Empower students to be ethical users of information and responsible digital advocates Use instructional technology to improve learning outcomes and teach students to construct new knowledge II. Systemic Liaison and Advocacy Serve on school‑based decision‑making teams, including school improvement and accreditation committees Advocate for the Library Media Center through public relations and evidence‑based reporting on student achievement Benchmark the LMC program against school, state, and national standards Guide and coach teachers and administrators in acquiring and maintaining digital literacy skills Stay current in professional practices and maintain active memberships in professional organizations III. Collaboration and Consultation Plan and provide professional development for staff regarding new digital tools and research methods Assist in the evaluation of new methods and digital tools that advance the Library and Technology programs Foster a creative, flexible environment that establishes the LMC as an essential part of the learning community Cooperate and network with other libraries and agencies to expand resource access for students and staff IV. Program Management Develop and maintain print, digital, and technological resources appropriate to curriculum and multicultural needs Administer the LMC budget to support program goals and oversee the selection, acquisition, and circulation of resources Create and maintain classification systems and cataloguing practices for bibliographic and media metadata Promote the ethical use of information, including copyright, fair use, and licensing of intellectual property Supervise library/tech staff and volunteers, participating in recruiting and training as assigned V. Professional Responsibilities and Development Commit to ongoing professional development, staying current with evidence‑based practices and antiracist pedagogical frameworks Contribute to the school community by participating in staff meetings, serving on committees, and supporting extracurricular activities as directed Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for educational support staff and volunteers to maximize their impact on student learning Other duties as assigned. Mobility, Navigation & Travel: Must move throughout the school building and grounds; navigate classrooms, cafeterias, and playgrounds for supervision and instruction Stationary Tasks: Often remains in a stationary position for considerable periods for instructional delivery, administrative tasks, and meetings Sensory Requirements: Must see and hear continuously to ensure student safety, monitor classroom operations, and provide instruction in active school environments Communication: Must communicate effectively and clearly with students, parents, and district personnel in person, via email, and on the telephone or video conference Manual Dexterity & Technology: Frequent use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; operate a computer, input data, and utilize instructional technology and office productivity machinery continuously throughout the day General Physical Strength: Ability to lift, move, and position classroom materials and equipment (up to 30 lbs) such as books, supplies, and bulk student devices Working Environment: Adapt to dynamic, higher‑noise school environments during classroom instruction, recess, and observations Interaction & Focus: Interact routinely with diverse stakeholders, meet multiple high‑level demands simultaneously, and maintain focus on student needs amid frequent interruptions School Environment Exposure: Navigate and function effectively within diverse school settings, including classrooms, cafeterias, and playgrounds, with varying noise levels and high‑activity environments Behavioral De‑escalation & Resilience: Remain calm and professional when exposed to student behavioral challenges or high‑stakes emotional situations; model and apply de‑escalation techniques as needed Reports To Building Principal (and/or Designee) The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Framingham Teachers Association (Unit A) Contract. Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Classification Position is classified as Exempt (Professional). Terms of Employment Covered under Framingham Teachers Association (Unit A) Contract.
