Senior Civil Estimator

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Civil Estimator to prepare accurate, detailed, and competitive estimates for heavy civil and site-development projects. Projects may include large residential developments, roadways, golf courses, earthwork, underground utilities, drainage, and paving.

The ideal candidate has 5–10 years of civil construction estimating experience, understands field production and construction methods, and can independently manage the estimating process from initial plan review through bid submission and project handoff.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and competitive bids for heavy civil and site-development projects.
• Review construction plans, specifications, contracts, bid documents, and project requirements.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for:
• Clearing and site preparation
• Earthwork and grading
• Sanitary sewer systems
• Storm drainage systems
• Potable water systems
• Irrigation distribution
• Roadway and paving work
• Use Trimble Business Center, Agtek, or comparable software to complete accurate takeoffs.
• Develop estimates using HCSS HeavyBid or similar construction estimating software.
• Calculate labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and production costs.
• Solicit, review, and compare subcontractor and supplier proposals.
• Identify scope gaps, project risks, constructability concerns, and cost-saving opportunities.
• Assist with project schedules, construction sequencing, and anticipated durations.
• Prepare bid packages, pricing summaries, and supporting documentation.
• Communicate with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, and internal project teams.
• Participate in bid reviews, negotiations, and project handoff meetings.
• Manage multiple estimates and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Five to 10 years of civil construction estimating experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering preferred; Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline will also be considered.
• Strong experience estimating earthwork, grading, underground utilities, drainage, and paving projects.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, specifications, and contract documents.
• Proficiency with Trimble Business Center, Agtek, or comparable takeoff software.
• Experience with HCSS HeavyBid or similar estimating software.
• Strong understanding of construction materials, equipment, labor productivity, and cost development.
• Experience managing subcontractor procurement and evaluating vendor proposals.
• Strong organizational, analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and meet demanding bid deadlines.
