Make a positive impact as a Special Education Teacher in a self-contained classroom for young learners with significant disabilities. In this contract role, you’ll work with a small group of K-2 students who receive core academic instruction in a dedicated classroom setting, while participating in general education activities for part of their day. The position operates in a collaborative environment with paraprofessionals, providing support to ensure all students thrive.
Your commitment will run from August 11, 2026, through at least September 23, 2026, with full-time hours (35 per week) from 8 AM to 3:15 PM. The modality (in-person or virtual) is to be determined.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois Special Education (SPED) teaching license required
- Experience working with young children with significant disabilities
- Deep understanding of individualized education plans (IEPs), differentiation, and classroom management
- Strong collaboration skills to work with paraprofessionals and general education staff
- Compassion, patience, and creativity in instructional strategies
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver core academic content to a self-contained K-2 classroom (4 students)
- Adapt materials and instruction to meet each child’s unique learning needs
- Foster a welcoming, structured, and inclusive classroom environment
- Coordinate with paraprofessionals to provide individualized support
- Facilitate smooth transitions for students integrating into general education activities
- Communicate progress and needs effectively with families and multidisciplinary teams
