Data Center Technician, DCC Communities

Overview Join our dynamic AWS team as a Data Center Technician, maintaining the heartbeat of our global cloud infrastructure. You will install, repair, and troubleshoot hardware and network components across AWS data centers, ensuring reliable service availability for millions of customers worldwide. Key Responsibilities Install server racks and perform hardware break‑fix across components. Troubleshoot network issues and respond to operational incidents that impact service availability, escalating to senior technicians and management as needed. Serve as the primary contact for internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, vendors, and contractors. Participate in on‑call duties, scheduled maintenance, and change management activities. Contribute to documentation and process improvement initiatives based on operational issue analysis. Help train and onboard new team members. Physical Requirements Lift and move up to 40 pounds regularly; assist with group lifts of 41+ pounds. Work in cramped or elevated areas; bend, stretch, reach, stand, and walk for up to 8+ hours per day. Safely ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and gangways. Operate in noisy environments and work longer shifts to support 24/7 operations, including night, weekend, and holiday shifts. Travel and Work Locations Travel within and outside the regional work area is required, with trips of over 50 miles or commuting less than 50 miles to active data center sites as needed. Temporary work at alternative sites during training periods or until the assigned facility is operational is expected. Legal and Security Requirements PDX is an AWS GovCloud region; only U.S. citizens may access the GovCloud region and it cannot be accessed from outside the United States. Qualifications Basic Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. At least 1 year of computer/server hardware troubleshooting or related IT experience. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, nights, and weekends. Preferred Qualifications Experience managing work and priorities through a ticketing system. Experience working in a data center environment. Associate’s degree, technical certification, or equivalent professional or military experience in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, networking engineering). Understanding of network design, protocols, and layer 1/2 troubleshooting.
