Evidence Technician

Summary Under the general supervision of the CID Sergeant, performs a variety of administrative and support services within the police department where a licensed police officer is not required. Responsible for careful handling, processing, and documentation of evidence in criminal investigations. This position does not supervise other positions and performs related work as required. The City offers a great work/life balance with a compressed work schedule Monday – Thursday from 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays. This position is on-site only and not remote. The City participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System with a 7% employee contribution rate and a 2:1 city match. The city offers a full slate of benefits and pays 100% of the employee cost for both medical and dental insurance and 50% of the cost for dependents. Ancillary benefits are available, and the city does participate in Social Security. Essential Job Functions Receive and record incoming evidence and property. Preserve the integrity of all evidence collected and ensure safe storage. Maintain accurate records of all evidence and property transactions. Release property and evidence to authorized personnel as required. Dispose of evidence and property in accordance with established policies and procedures. Assist with crime scene processing if necessary. Follow all legal and procedural guidelines for handling and storing evidence. Provide testimony in court as required. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the evidence storage area. Participate in audits and inventories of evidence and property. Acts as the TPCA (Texas Police Chiefs’ Association) Best Practice Recognition Program Manager by managing and coordinating all aspects of the TPCA Program. Maintains accreditation files, proofs, policies, and supporting documentation. Conducts internal audits and inspections to ensure compliance with TPCA standards. Monitors changes in Texas law, accreditation standards, and law enforcement best practices. Serves as a liaison between the police department and TPCA program representatives. Serves as the event coordinator for the Police Department by planning, organizing, promoting, and coordinating the police department's events, community outreach activities, public safety programs, ceremonies, and special projects. Organize logistics for events, including scheduling, permits, equipment, venues, vendors, staffing, and setup. Coordinate annual departmental events such as National Night Out, Community CPR classes, Cops and Rodders, Community outreach programs, Student Outreach programs, and Community Education Events. Serves as liaison with city departments, schools, businesses, civic organizations, and community groups. Coordinates volunteers, sponsors, and community partners for department programs and events. Develops promotional materials, flyers, social media content, and public announcements for events. Assist with public relations and community engagement initiatives. Ensure events comply with city policies, safety standards, and departmental procedures. Attend events during evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. Performs other related administrative duties as assigned or requested. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of standard office practices and principles. Knowledge of report writing methods and techniques. Knowledge of computers and related equipment, hardware, and software. Knowledge of City and Police Department policies and procedures governing assigned work. Skill in effective oral and written communication. Skill in gathering data and preparing reports. Skill in English composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Skill in operating common office equipment, including a personal computer and standard office computer programs. Skill in providing good customer service. Minimum Qualifications Ability to successfully pass the City of Farmersville’s pre‑employment screening process, including criminal background check and drug screening. High School diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in a law enforcement or related environment preferred. Knowledge of laws, regulations, and procedures related to evidence handling and storage. Must possess a valid State of Texas Driver's License. #J-18808-Ljbffr
