Geotechnical Project Manager - Lead a team

An established geotechnical engineering consultancy with a long-standing reputation throughout the Northeast is looking to appoint a Senior Geotechnical Engineer Project Manager to help lead and grow its Connecticut operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced geotechnical engineer who enjoys technical project management, mentoring junior engineers, and delivering high-quality geotechnical reports on complex building and infrastructure projects.

The firm has built an outstanding reputation over several decades and continues to win repeat work throughout Connecticut, New York, and New England. With a strong backlog of projects already secured, the next step is bringing in an experienced engineer who can help develop the local team and take ownership of project delivery.

Description

This position is centered around project leadership rather than detailed design.

You'll oversee geotechnical investigations, manage project delivery, prepare and review geotechnical reports, coordinate field activities, and provide technical guidance to a growing team of engineers.

You'll work closely with clients throughout the project lifecycle while helping develop junior staff and supporting the continued expansion of the Connecticut office.

Current projects include commercial developments, transportation infrastructure, bridges, retaining structures, foundations, slope stability assessments, and a wide range of complex geotechnical investigations.

While business development experience is welcomed, this is not a sales position. The work already exists. The priority is finding someone capable of delivering technically strong projects while helping build the team around them.

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple geotechnical projects from proposal through completion.
• Prepare, review and sign off geotechnical engineering reports.
• Provide technical leadership to junior engineers and field staff.
• Coordinate subsurface investigations and oversee field operations.
• Review geotechnical recommendations including foundation systems, settlement analyses and slope stability assessments.
• Develop project scopes, proposals, schedules and budgets.
• Maintain strong relationships with existing clients while supporting future growth opportunities.
• Support recruitment, mentoring and development of junior engineers.

What They're Looking For

• Approximately 10-20 years of geotechnical engineering experience.
• Strong experience preparing geotechnical reports for building and infrastructure projects.
• Previous project management experience.
• Experience leading or mentoring small engineering teams.
• Solid understanding of foundations, settlement, subsurface investigations and geotechnical analysis.
• PE license preferred (Connecticut licensure can be obtained later if required).
• Strong communication and client management skills.
