Epirus' flagship product, Leonidas, is a software-defined system built using intelligent power management techniques which allow power-hungry systems to do more with less.Job Summary:The Vice President of Marketing and Communications sits within Epirus' Strategy function and reports into senior leadership, with high visibility across the executive team.They will partner directly with executive leadership to shape and externalize Epirus' core strategic messaging, vision, and positioning, and will build and control the Company's external narrative -including media relations, press strategy, and public-facing communications. They will develop and maintain relationships with Department of War (DoW) media personnel, and will propose a structured, measurable approach to marketing, with clear objectives, frameworks, and reporting against them.This role directs and briefs an internal design house to execute on brand and creative work; design sits as a separate function, so this is a strong external communicator/partner role rather than a hands-on production role. They will also lead trade shows, industry events, and thought-leadership opportunities - such as speaking engagements and editorials - for senior Company leaders, and will manage a small team consisting of an events lead and two additional reports.Responsibilities:Partner directly with executive leadership to shape and externalize Epirus' core strategic messaging, vision, and positioningBuild and control the Company's external narrative, including media relations, press strategy, and public-facing communicationsDevelop and maintain relationships with Department of War (DoW) media personnelPropose a structured, measurable approach to marketing, including clear objectives, frameworks, and reporting against themDirect and brief an internal design house to execute on brand and creative work (design sits as a separate function; this is a strong external-communicator/partner role rather than hands-on production)Lead trade shows, industry events focused on product demonstrations, and thought-leadership opportunities (speaking engagements, editorials, etc.) for senior Company leaders and executivesSupport for investor relations activities, including narrative-building and relationship management.Manage a small team consisting of an events lead and two additional reportsStay abreast of and internally disseminate international, domestic, and industry-related news that could impact the CompanyTrack and report on important public news pertaining to competitors, partners, and clientsPerform other tasks and support other Company objectives, as requiredCompetencies & Areas of Expertise:Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or related field10+ years of relevant marketing, communications, and/or public relations experience, with demonstrated success shaping and externalizing strategic messaging in partnership with executive leadershipA strategic communicator who can break big ideas into clear, structured themes and messagesDemonstrated experience building and controlling an external narrative, including media relations and press strategyExperience developing relationships with government/defense media personnel preferredAbility to propose and operate against structured, measurable marketing frameworks and reportingComfortable directing and briefing external or internal creative/design partners rather than producing creative work hands-onExcellent oral and written communication skills, with a knack for simplifying complex topics and technologiesStrong sense of initiative and urgency, comfortable operating within moderate budget autonomyPassion for Start-Up environments and a strong commitment to Epirus' vision and role in the Defense IndustryDesire to build senior relationships with military/defense stakeholders and grow into broader scope over timeOrganized, detail-oriented, and able to work and deliver with a high degree of autonomy and responsibilityTo conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.At Epirus, you'll work with technical peers and great people—and get first crack at some of the defining technology challenges of our time. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location.For the state of California only, the range of starting pay for this role is:$290,300 - $361,000 USDPay Transparency as required for Washington D.C. effective 2024D.C.
