ABOUT THE COMPANY
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join their accounting team. This position is a great opportunity for an accounting professional with 2+ years of experience who is interested in expanding their skills within a dynamic organization.


The Staff Accountant will have a primary focus on lease and real estate accounting , while also supporting general accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting.

OVERVIEW OF THE STAFF ACCOUNTANT ROLE
  • Manage accounting activities related to the company's real estate lease portfolio.

  • Maintain accurate lease records, schedules, and supporting documentation.

  • Review lease agreements and amendments to identify accounting and financial impacts.

  • Perform monthly lease accounting calculations, journal entries, and reconciliations.

  • Assist with ASC 842 lease accounting requirements and reporting.

  • Reconcile lease-related and other general ledger accounts and investigate variances or discrepancies.

  • Track rent, operating expenses, escalations, abatements, and other lease-related activity.

  • Partner with property management, real estate, Accounts Payable, and other internal teams to ensure accurate financial information.

  • The Staff Accountant will assist with month-end and year-end close activities.

  • Support the preparation of financial reports, schedules, and audit documentation.

  • Maintain compliance with company accounting policies and applicable GAAP requirements.

  • The Staff Accountant will assist with lease audits and provide documentation to external auditors as needed.

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and internal controls.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS OF THE STAFF ACCOUNTANT ROLE
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.

  • 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably within real estate, property management, or lease accounting.

  • Working knowledge of GAAP and ASC 842 .

  • Experience with account reconciliations and month-end close.

  • Strong Excel skills and the ability to work with large amounts of financial data.

  • Experience reviewing contracts, leases, or other financial agreements preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with real estate accounting software or ERP systems is a plus.
