Overview Paramedic Schedule: PRN, Varied Shifts Hourly rates starting at $23.98 General Position Summary Working as a team, respond, treat, and react quickly and calmly to emergency and non-emergency situations in order to provide efficient and immediate, advanced and basic life support, care to the ill and injured. Ensure that during a shift that the assigned unit is properly equipped, stocked, and prepared to respond to a single or multiple patient incidents. Be responsible for schedules and coverage in the event that other personnel are not available to cover a shift. Shift work requires a mixture of day, night, twenty four hour and on call coverage to ensure adequate coverage for the service. The duties described herein are minimum standards and may be modified to meet the changing needs of Harris Health System at any time. Qualifications The following qualifications are the minimum requirements necessary to adequately perform this job. However, an equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities would be acceptable, subject to any legal and/or regulatory requirements. Education : High School Diploma required. Associates Degree or higher is preferred. Current North Carolina Paramedic, National Registry Preferred. Two years experience as a full time Paramedic desired AHA, ARC, ASHI/HSI CPR AHA, ARC, ASHI/HSI ACLS/ALS AHA, ARC, ASHI/HSI PALS, or PEPP BTLS/PHTLS/ITLS/TECC or TCCC, acquire within 6 months, then maintain thereafter Experience : Minimum of two years' experience as a paramedic desired. Maintain current standards for recertification through the NCOEMS. Physical Requirements The amount of physical effort remains fluid throughout the shift, but many excursions are required. The fixed demands of the job include lifting, securing, and transporting patients to the unit and hospital. Tasks may require twisting, bending, walking, running, kneeling, and lifting. These functions are often accomplished in adverse weather conditions. This position may involve dealing with obese and/or uncooperative individuals. The duration and weight are dependent on the situation, but employees should be able to lift 100 lbs. and events may last greater than one hour per call. Working Environment The Emergency Medical Service is staffed seven (7) days a week, 52 weeks per year. An assigned shift will schedule staff members to cover days and evening rotations. The work involves approximately 70% of the shift in the field (Harris EMS area of operation including patients\' homes, infrastructures, hospitals, and long-term care facilities) where there is a potential risk of injury. During this time the employee is exposed to the environment, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous materials, and possibly hostile situations. Approximately 20% of the workday is spent at an ambulance base where the risk of injury or exposure is reduced. The remaining 10% of the shift includes community outreach programs, educational demonstrations, or classroom instruction.
