About the Opportunity

Our client, in rapid growth mode, is seeking a highly motivated Senior Accountant to join their growing accounting team. This role will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial records, supporting the month-end close process, preparing financial analyses, and assisting with job cost accounting and financial reporting. The ideal candidate is hands-on, analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment while partnering closely with operational leaders and the Controller.

Key Responsibilities

General Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Maintain the general ledger, including journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and month-end close activities.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules for Controller review.
• Investigate and resolve account reconciliation discrepancies.
• Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
• Coordinate audit schedules and supporting documentation for annual financial audits.
• Assist with tax reporting and other regulatory filings.
• Support daily banking activities, including cash management and deposits.

Financial Analysis & Reporting

• Analyze monthly financial results and identify significant fluctuations, trends, and variances.
• Prepare monthly variance analyses comparing actual performance to budget, forecast, and prior-period results.
• Develop recurring financial reports, dashboards, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for management.
• Compile financial data for budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning initiatives.
• Identify opportunities to improve reporting capabilities and operational visibility.

Job Cost & Operational Analysis

• Review job cost reports for accuracy, completeness, and proper cost allocation.
• Investigate project cost variances and discrepancies, partnering with Project Managers to gather supporting information and resolve issues.
• Assist in preparing Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and project performance reports.
• Monitor indirect costs and identify opportunities for operational improvement and cost control.
• Maintain and distribute Time & Material and Change Order pricing schedules.

Insurance & Risk Administration

• Assist with administration of the company's insurance programs.
• Maintain insurance certificates, OCIP documentation, and related records.
• Coordinate insurance audits and prepare required supporting documentation.

Additional Responsibilities

• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding payroll and accounting information.
• Assist in developing and documenting accounting processes, procedures, and internal controls.
• Support training initiatives and knowledge sharing within the department.
• Provide backup support for payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other accounting functions.
• Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned by the Controller.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Experience with month-end close and financial statement preparation.
• Knowledge of job costing, WIP schedules, and project accounting preferred.
• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience working with ERP/accounting systems.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Construction, contracting, engineering, or project-based industry experience preferred.
• CPA or CPA-track candidate is a plus.
• Experience supporting external audits and insurance audits.
