About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS & ACLS required Must-Have: Ability to read strips, experience with set-rate Cardizem & Amiodarone, knowledge of TR Bands is a plus Description: Unit has 21 beds, usually staffed for 18. Average nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:6. Common diagnoses include pre/post catheterization, chest pain rule-outs on heparin drips, COPD, CHF, pacemakers, and arrhythmias. RNs are required to read and interpret cardiac strips. Set-rate Cardizem and Amiodarone are the common drips administered. Other occasional drips include Bumex and Lasix. Tele monitor technicians are available on the floor, but RNs must be able to interpret strips independently. Charge nurses are present on the unit 24/7, with day charge nurses sometimes taking patients and night charge nurses always taking patients. Nurse aides are available with a ratio of 1:10 to 1:14/15, depending on census and staffing. Roles include performing EKGs, bladder scans, and monitoring vital signs. Supported respiratory equipment includes BiPAP and CPAP; only used for supportive therapy. Shifts follow a 12-hour schedule with specific clock-in times. Time-off requests must be communicated upfront and during the contract signing. Weekend requirements include every other weekend for travelers. Holiday rotations are established for permanent staff, with travelers expected to work as needed based on unit requirements. Travelers may be floated anywhere in the facility as needed. Scrub color is royal blue, and only scrub jackets are permitted; no hoodies or sweat-jackets allowed. The unit is fast-paced and can discharge up to 6 patients per day, with multiple admits as well. Cancellation policy allows for a limited number of shift cancellations during the assignment. Charting is completed using an electronic system.
