Registered Nurse - Surgery

Job Summary Delivers professional nursing care in the operative setting to patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures. Job Details Schedule: 7AM‑3:30PM Mon‑Fri. On‑call and late shift required. Pay Range: $31.21 – $49.94 per hour. Sign‑On Bonus: Eligible external candidates may qualify; internal candidates should consult their recruiter. Worker Type: Regular Job; Day Shift. Department: Surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital, Mount Vernon. Job Type: Employee (Hourly). Responsibilities Performs scrub functions, selecting and handling instruments and supplies used during the procedure. Performs circulating functions, including monitoring, recording, and communicating patient condition, and managing overall nursing care before, during, and after the procedure. Directly assists the operating physician with surgical tasks such as hemostasis, suturing, wound exposure, and patient positioning. Prepares operating rooms and surgical instruments and equipment for use. Applies evidence‑based practice and scientific knowledge to nursing care, ensuring care is based on patient’s age‑specific and clinical needs within the department’s Scope of Service. Demonstrates professional nursing standards as defined in the professional practice model. Uses the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide responses to evolving health and nursing needs. Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner. Performs other duties as assigned. Education & Experience Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or possess educational equivalency for licensing. Experience: No experience required. Physical Requirements Constant use of speech for oral communication. Constant standing and walking. Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0‑25 lbs. Frequent sitting, reaching, and keyboard use/data entry. Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (≤20 inches), far (≥20 feet), and color identification. Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors. Frequent use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds, and hear alarms or malfunctioning machinery. Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25‑50 lbs. Occasional lifting/moving of patients. Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements. Occasional driving. Rare crawling and running. Licenses & Certifications State of Work Location: Illinois. Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA). Registered Professional Nurse (RN) – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
