The IEP team determines the need for ESY, assessing each student’s level of need and recommending specific IEP services during the program. Reports To: Senior Director of Related Services and Site Coordinator, in close collaboration with the Director of Extended School Year and Expanded Learning in the Office of Specialized Services. For questions, email View email address on click.appcast.io. Program Schedule: Instruction for students is typically 5 hours per day, 5 days per week for 5 weeks from July 6 to August 7, 2026. The Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is expected to: Commit to working all 25 days of the program. Attend Mandatory Professional Development (Dates TBD). Work a 6‑hour day, 5 days per week for 5 weeks (including 30 minutes for student arrival and 30 minutes for dismissal). Plan lessons independently for rigorous instruction. Schedule student services and set up classroom space. Complete Progress Reports as required. Responsibilities: Teachers provide students with rigorous instruction that supports effective teaching. Key responsibilities include: Provide direct individual or small‑group instruction addressing IEP goals in orientation, mobility or specific instruction for deaf or hard‑of‑hearing students. Prepare demanding and therapeutic lessons, including planning outside program hours. Differentiate instruction. Establish a productive learning environment and classroom culture where all students are respected. Maintain attendance and progress records. Consult with teachers and other related service providers to address student needs. Provide timely data to students, families, site coordinators, and program staff, including monitoring and reporting progress to prevent regression. Participate in all scheduled professional development. Care for program materials and resources. Engage as a partner in planning and problem‑solving as needed. Support arrival and dismissal as outlined by the site coordinator. Perform other related duties as requested by the ESY Site Coordinator or Director of Operations & Service Implementation. Adhere to the ESY handbook policy and ensure compliance across the site. Professional Reflection & Collaboration Reflect on practice, seek and respond to feedback, and demonstrate commitment to continuous learning. Participate in a collaborative adult learning community. Qualifications – Required: Master’s Degree in Deaf Education. Massachusetts teaching license. Experience in oral/aural education and using listening and spoken language. Experience with cochlear implants and aural habilitation preferred. Ability to travel frequently throughout Boston to meet student needs. Current authorization to work in the United States by first day of employment. Qualifications – Preferred: Current Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Boston Public Schools. Massachusetts Oral/Aural Deaf Education certification. Fluency in an additional BPS official language (Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, or Somali). BPS values linguistic diversity. Terms: Agree to the 2026 BPS Summer Employment Terms. All staff must sign the 2026 ESY Job Description Sign Off Form. Paid hourly at $56 per hour for instructional time (bi‑weekly payroll). Non‑instructional responsibilities are paid at $40 per hour. Additional work hours beyond 6 hours per day require approval from the Director of Extended School Year & Expanded Learning. Staff may be required to work as long as necessary to complete required work. Consent to electronic sign‑in procedures retained for audit and payroll. Failure to report for instructional time results in loss of pay for that day. Job offers conditional on sufficient student enrollment/attendance.
