The Opportunity

Scaling.com is approximately 15 months old and operates at roughly $15 million in annual revenue. We are looking to build a finance team that scales from where we currently are to $120 million annually.

We are seeking a hands-on, builder-oriented Chief Financial Officer who can operate at our current stage while designing the people, systems, controls, reporting, and capital relationships required for the next several stages of scale. This person will work directly with the CEO and partners and will become a trusted financial thought partner, not simply the executive who reports historical numbers.

The Mission

Build and lead the financial organization Scaling.com needs to scale from $15 million to $120 million while protecting cash, creating reliable reporting and controls, establishing continuous access to responsible capital, and serving as the CEO's trusted and candid financial right hand.

Core Mandates

Strategic Finance and CEO Partnership

• Own the annual operating plan, rolling forecasts, long-range financial model, and scenario planning.
• Deliver a concise weekly financial scorecard and monthly planned-versus-actual analysis.
• Translate financial results into clear decisions, tradeoffs, and recommendations on hiring, customer acquisition, pricing, compensation, debt, distributions, and capital allocation.
• Identify risks early, communicate difficult news directly, and challenge assumptions respectfully when the facts require it.

Accounting and Controls

• Own the month-end and year-end close and ensure accurate, timely financial statements.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, payroll oversight, expense management, tax coordination, and financial compliance.
• Maintain accurate financial records and work effectively with external accounting, tax, and advisory partners.
• Build durable financial controls, approval authorities, documentation, and reporting processes that are not dependent on one person.
• Oversee annual financial statement audit to ensure that books are clean and accurate.

Cash, Treasury and Capital Access

• Maintain a reliable 13-week cash forecast and longer-range liquidity plan.
• Own treasury, banking, payment processors, credit cards, wires, working capital, and liquidity visibility.
• Build trusted relationships with commercial banks, credit unions, SBA lenders where appropriate, equipment-finance providers, asset-based lenders, private-credit providers, and other responsible capital sources.
• Maintain multiple credible financing paths so the company is never dependent on one institution or an emergency process.
• Prepare lender-ready financial packages and evaluate financing alternatives based on total cost, covenants, collateral, guarantees, flexibility, repayment capacity, and strategic risk.

Legal Operations and Finance-Team Development

• Serve as the internal owner of legal operations while working closely with qualified outside counsel.
• Coordinate entities, LLCs, operating agreements, partner agreements, contracts, renewals, governance, insurance, disputes, and legal-risk follow-through.
• Know which matters belong inside the company and which require external legal counsel.
• Design and build the finance organization needed at approximately $30 million, $60 million, and $120 million, including Controller, accounting, and FP&A capabilities as required.

First 90-Day Priorities

• Complete a disciplined transition from the current finance leader and map every material responsibility, deadline, system, relationship, open issue, and risk.
• Stabilize the finance function and ensure uninterrupted ownership of cash, reporting, accounting, tax coordination, banking, and legal operations.
• Establish a reliable 13-week cash forecast, monthly close, weekly CEO financial briefing, and monthly planned-versus-actual reporting cadence.
• Create a capital roadmap and lender-ready data room, begin meaningful conversations with at least five qualified banking or capital-source contacts, and maintain at least three credible financing paths in active discussion.
• Present the finance-team, systems, controls, and reporting plan required for Scaling.com's path to $120 million.

The Ideal Candidate

• Approximately 12 or more years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including at least five years leading a finance or accounting function.
• Demonstrated experience helping a founder-led, privately held, or PE-backed company scale substantially—ideally through at least a 3X expansion or from a stage similar to Scaling.com toward $75 million–$100 million or more.
• End-to-end ownership of strategic finance, forecasting, accounting, close, cash, controls, and executive reporting.
• Experience building scalable financial processes, controls, and reporting in a fast-changing company.
• Proven success securing, renewing, or expanding business financing and building lender relationships before an urgent capital need arose.
• Experience preparing lender-ready financial packages and negotiating pricing, covenants, collateral, guarantees, and reporting requirements.
• Experience building a finance team and systems rather than merely inheriting a mature organization.
• Strong understanding of US accounting principles, treasury, controls, and multi-entity organizations. CPA strongly preferred.
• Utah-based or willing to relocate and work meaningfully in person with the CEO and leadership team.
