KITCHEN SUPERVISOR

Department: Food & Beverage - The Strand
Location: Canopy by Hilton Ithaca
Schedule: PM/Evening Shifts | Weekends & Holidays as Needed
POSITION SUMMARY

The Strand, located inside the Canopy by Hilton Ithaca, is seeking an experienced and dependable Kitchen Supervisor to support the daily operation of our evening kitchen.

The Kitchen Supervisor is a hands-on leadership position responsible for overseeing kitchen operations during assigned shifts, supporting the culinary team, and ensuring food is prepared and served according to established quality, safety, and presentation standards.

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and team leader who can remain organized and composed in a fast-paced environment while helping the kitchen team deliver an exceptional experience for our hotel guests and restaurant patrons.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Kitchen Operations

• Oversee evening kitchen operations and provide direction to kitchen staff throughout the shift.
• Lead and support line cooks, prep cooks, dish staff, and other kitchen team members.
• Monitor dinner service to ensure orders are prepared accurately, efficiently, and within expected ticket times.
• Prepare and cook menu items as needed while actively supporting the line during service.
• Ensure recipes, portion sizes, cooking procedures, and presentation standards are consistently followed.
• Monitor food quality, freshness, temperature, and presentation throughout the shift.
• Assist with daily preparation, specials, and other culinary needs as directed by the Kitchen Manager.

Team Leadership

• Assign and monitor station responsibilities during service.
• Provide direction, coaching, and support to kitchen team members.
• Train and mentor employees on recipes, procedures, food safety, sanitation, and proper kitchen practices.
• Lead by example and promote a professional, respectful, and team-oriented work environment.
• Communicate staffing, performance, operational, or equipment concerns to the Restaurant Manager.
• Help maintain positive morale and effective communication within the kitchen team.

Food Safety & Sanitation

• Ensure all food safety and sanitation standards are consistently followed.
• Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary workstations and kitchen areas.
• Ensure equipment is properly operated, cleaned, and maintained.
• Monitor food quality and freshness and address potential food safety concerns promptly.

Inventory & Cost Control

• Monitor food levels throughout the shift and communicate shortages or prep needs.
• Assist with inventory organization and product rotation.
• Assist with receiving and properly storing deliveries when needed.
• Communicate inventory, product, or equipment concerns to the Restaurant Manager

Communication & Guest Service

• Maintain clear and professional communication with the Front of House team throughout service.
• Work closely with servers, bartenders, and management to ensure accurate and timely ticket execution.
• Address kitchen-related guest concerns professionally and involve management when appropriate.
• Support the overall guest experience by maintaining high standards of food quality and service.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 3+ years of professional kitchen experience preferred.
• Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
• Strong cooking skills across multiple stations, including grill, sauté, and prep.
• Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and professional kitchen practices.
• Ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize responsibilities and make sound decisions during service.
• Dependable, professional, and committed to teamwork.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
• Food safety certification preferred or willingness to obtain.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a hands-on position in a fast-paced hotel restaurant kitchen. The role requires prolonged standing and frequent walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and moving kitchen supplies and equipment. The Kitchen Supervisor must be able to remain focused and professional while managing multiple priorities during busy service periods.
