Senior Trust Officer Help Families Preserve, Protect, and Transfer Wealth Across Generations

As a Senior Trust Officer, you will oversee complex fiduciary relationships, providing thoughtful guidance and exceptional service while helping clients navigate the opportunities and responsibilities that come with managing significant wealth. This role is focused on the administration of Delaware directed trusts, discretionary trusts, and other complex fiduciary arrangements. You will serve as a trusted advisor to clients and their professional advisors, partnering across Wilmington Trust's wealth management, investment, tax, and fiduciary teams to deliver tailored solutions that support clients' long-term goals.

What You'll Do

• Administer a portfolio of complex trust relationships, including Delaware directed trusts, discretionary trusts, and trusts holding closely held business interests and other unique assets.
• Serve as the primary relationship manager for high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients, beneficiaries, family offices, attorneys, accountants, and other trusted advisors.
• Exercise sound fiduciary judgment while ensuring all account activity is administered in accordance with governing documents, applicable regulations, and Wilmington Trust policies.
• Interpret and apply trust agreements, wills, settlement agreements, and related fiduciary documents to support administration and decision-making.
• Coordinate distributions, tax-related matters, account reviews, and other trust administration activities.
• Develop a thorough understanding of Delaware directed trust structures, including the distinct roles and responsibilities of trustees, investment advisors, distribution advisors, and trust protectors.
• Partner with internal specialists across investments, fiduciary services, tax, legal, and compliance to deliver a seamless client experience.
• Proactively identify and address client needs while maintaining the highest standards of service, professionalism, and responsiveness.
• Monitor risk and ensure adherence to fiduciary, regulatory, and operational requirements.
• Support business development efforts by strengthening existing client relationships and collaborating with colleagues across the wealth business.

What Makes You Successful

Deep understanding of fiduciary administration and trust law. Strong knowledge of Delaware trust structures, including directed trusts and the separation of fiduciary responsibilities among parties. Ability to build credibility and confidence with affluent clients and their advisors. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex fiduciary concepts in a clear and practical manner. Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail. Sound judgment and a commitment to exceptional client service. Ability to manage complex relationships while balancing risk, regulatory requirements, and client objectives.

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of fiduciary, trust administration, estate administration, or wealth management experience. Demonstrated experience administering complex trust relationships. Strong understanding of fiduciary principles, trust administration, distributions, and trust taxation. Proven ability to work directly with high-net-worth clients and professional advisors. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

Certified Trust and Fiduciary Advisor (CTFA) designation required or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe. Experience administering Delaware directed trusts. Experience working with trusts holding closely held business interests, concentrated positions, or other unique assets. Knowledge of trust and estate taxation. Juris Doctor, advanced degree, or additional fiduciary credentials.
