Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Montana State Hospital provides direct care and support to residents, assisting with daily living activities, hygiene, vital sign monitoring, specimen collection, and emergency assistance. The role requires effective communication, accurate reporting, and the ability to develop cooperative working relationships. This position prioritizes mental health experience and includes responsibilities related to patient transport and de-escalation techniques in a psychiatric facility setting. Responsibilities:

• Assist residents with basic hygiene tasks including bathing, oral hygiene, and dressing.
• Take and record vital signs and collect specimens as required.
• Support residents during emergency situations and assist with patient transport to appointments.
• Communicate observations accurately and follow instructions explicitly both orally and in writing.
• Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with patients and team members.
• Perform duties according to established standards and safety protocols.

• Valid Montana Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a psychiatric facility or similar mental health setting.
• Ability to communicate clearly and follow instructions precisely.
• Experience working in healthcare or group home environments.
• Basic knowledge of personal hygiene care.
• At least 1 year of travel contract experience.

• CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification.
• Experience in geriatric care, hospice, or long-term care facilities (minimum 5 years if sole background).
• Emergency or urgent care experience (minimum 4 years if sole background).
• Demonstrated skills in de-escalation techniques.

• Must be flexible with facility scheduling and able to work holidays.
• Experience required in adult psychiatric facilities.
• Travel experience of 1-2 years is mandatory.

• Shift: 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM (night shift) at Montana State Hospital.
• Float pool and open shift availability preferred.
• Shift assignments and time off requests are managed according to facility policies.
