Accounting Assistant

Our client is seeking an Accounting Assistant with hands-on experience in accounts payable, invoicing, billing, and collections. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of basic accounting principles, including debits and credits, and experience working with both cash basis and accrual basis accounting. This role will support day-to-day accounting operations, perform reconciliations, and help ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial transactions. Experience within the mortgage, property management, or real estate industry is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

• Process and maintain accounts payable transactions, including invoice review, coding, and payment processing.
• Prepare and issue customer invoices and support ongoing billing functions.
• Monitor aging reports and assist with collections efforts to ensure timely receipt of payments.
• Record financial transactions accurately and maintain supporting documentation.
• Apply knowledge of debits and credits to daily accounting entries and transaction review.
• Assist with accounting processes under both cash and accrual methods.
• Perform account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations and other balance sheet account reconciliations.
• Support month-end close activities and help ensure financial records are complete and accurate.
• Communicate with vendors, customers, and internal departments regarding billing, payment, and account questions.
• Maintain accurate records and assist with other general accounting and administrative duties as needed.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in an accounting role with exposure to accounts payable, invoicing, billing, and collections.
• Strong understanding of basic accounting principles, including debits and credits.
• Experience with cash basis and accrual basis accounting.
• Experience performing reconciliations and supporting general accounting functions.
• Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent communication and follow-up skills.
• Experience working in a mortgage, property management, or real estate company is highly desired.
