Executive Director

The client is seeking an Executive Director (ED) to build on a period of intentional, sustained growth at a distinctive cultural institution that includes a mansion museum, working greenhouse, and curated gardens. With a refreshed strategic plan, a dedicated staff and volunteer community, and a campus poised for continued investment, the ED will steward the institution’s legacy while driving contemporary relevance by broadening audiences, deepening community connections, and ensuring that diverse visitors find meaningful, inspiring experiences. The ED will lead with strong judgment in balancing the complexities of stewarding a historic house museum and estate, honoring the spirit and intentions associated with the institution’s origin while keeping the campus dynamic, welcoming, and resonant for contemporary audiences. Future success will depend on growing intentionally and sustainably—not only increasing attendance, but also preserving the intimacy, beauty, and quality of the visitor experience. The role encompasses executive leadership across organizational strategy, people management, financial oversight, major gift fundraising, board governance, collections stewardship, and programmatic vision. Key responsibilities include developing, implementing, and evaluating the strategic plan; promoting environmental sustainability across operations; and championing a culture of welcome and inclusion for guests, staff, and volunteers. The ED will translate board vision into actionable plans, drive visitation and audience diversification through integrated programming, communications, exhibitions, and community engagement, and guide infrastructure and campus improvements such as accessibility enhancements and environmental upgrades. The ED will also directly supervise senior leadership, partner on recruitment and hiring, and serve as the institution’s primary representative to donors, community stakeholders, and the broader arts, cultural, and heritage sector.
