Job Description

Pay: $25-$31/hr
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
Location: Colorado Springs, CO 80920
Assignment: Temporary, 3-6 months

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to provide financial and accounting support for a busy Finance Department. This position will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, account reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, month-end and year-end closing, and assisting with audits and budgeting.

The ideal candidate will have strong accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Perform monthly and year-end closing procedures, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Review general ledger accounts and banking activity for accuracy.
• Analyze financial reports and assist with monthly financial statements.
• Assist with annual audits, including preparing requested documentation and audit work papers.
• Assist with annual financial reporting and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards.
• Maintain fixed asset records and assist with annual physical inventory.
• Process purchase requisitions and ensure proper documentation.
• Assist with vendor contracts, bids, and related records.
• Assist with annual budgeting and grant reporting.
• Provide payroll support and serve as a backup for payroll processing.
• Assist with special projects and other Finance Department needs as assigned.
• Work closely with management and other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial information.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
• At least 5 years of accounting experience, including 2 years of audit experience.
• Government accounting experience required.
• Working knowledge of GAAP, GASB, and FASB standards.
• Nonprofit accounting experience required.
• Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
• Professional communication and good judgment are important in this role.

Additional Information

This is primarily an office-based position with extended computer use. Some standing, bending, reaching, and occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds may be required. The position may offer some telecommuting with supervisor approval based on performance and business needs.
