Role Description The Chief Legal Officer at JNL Slade Bookkeeping is a contract, remote role responsible for overseeing all legal matters affecting the organization. This role involves providing strategic legal advice on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, contracts, and risk management. The Chief Legal Officer will review, draft, and negotiate client agreements, vendor contracts, and internal policies to support the firm’s operations. Day-to-day tasks include assessing legal risks, advising leadership on labor and employment law considerations, and ensuring alignment with relevant laws and regulations. The role also requires collaboration with executive leadership on business decisions, guiding the company’s legal strategy, and, when needed, coordinating with external counsel.\n
Qualifications

• Strong foundational knowledge of Law with the ability to interpret and apply statutes, regulations, and case law relevant to professional services and bookkeeping.

• Demonstrated experience handling Legal Issues and providing clear, practical Legal Advice to leadership and operational teams.
\n
• Proven expertise in Corporate Governance, including advising on organizational policies, board matters, and compliance frameworks.
\n
• Experience with Labor and Employment Law, including policies, contracts, and compliance for remote and contract workforces.
\n
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

• Experience as in-house counsel or in a similar senior legal role, preferably in professional services, finance, or technology-driven environments.
\n
• Strong analytical, negotiation, and contract drafting skills, with attention to detail and risk awareness.
\n
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage multiple priorities, and communicate complex legal concepts in accessible language.

• High ethical standards, sound judgment, and a commitment to non-discriminatory, inclusive business practices.
