New Hire Starting Salary Range: $19.74 – $24.70 per hour base wage

Purpose

The Medical Assistant, Senior provides advanced clinical and administrative support within a high-volume, fast-paced spine and orthopedic specialty practice. Beyond standard rooming and clinical duties, the Senior MA functions as a key operational resource—coordinating patient flow, guiding clinical workflows, assisting with peer training, and actively participating in population health initiatives. This role is essential to optimizing provider schedules, streamlining care coordination, and ensuring an exceptional patient experience.

Responsibilities

• Clinical Rooming & Assessments: Escorts patients to exam rooms, assists with transfers/ambulation, takes comprehensive patient histories, measures vital signs, and prepares exam rooms, instruments, and sterile setups.
• Specialized Clinical Procedures: Performs phlebotomy, 12-lead EKGs, point-of-care testing, and simple dressing changes. Administers approved subcutaneous or intramuscular injections and vaccines under the direct supervision of a physician.
• Lead Workflow & Mentorship: Coordinates daily patient flow, monitors provider schedules, and delegates tasks to maintain efficient clinic operations. Serves as a clinical mentor, assisting with the onboarding, orientation, and training of new medical assistants.
• EHR Super User: Serves as the department's electronic health record (EHR) super user—assisting peers with workflow optimization, template troubleshooting, and accurate charting practices.
• Population Health & Care Coordination: Leads telephonic outreach to patients post-discharge from hospitals or emergency departments to review medication schedules, coordinate timely follow-up appointments, and address care gaps.
• Administrative & Front-Office Support: Manages specialized patient records, obtains lab/imaging results, processes referrals, coordinates insurance verifications, and assists with check-in/check-out functions as needed.
• Infection Control & Compliance: Thoroughly cleans and disinfects treatment rooms, clinical equipment, and medical instruments between patient visits in strict accordance with OSHA, CLIA, and Department of Health standards.

Minimum Essential Requirements

• Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Professional Experience: Candidates must meet one of the following qualification criteria:
  • Option A: Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, or an equivalent hospital training program (LPN, RN, or EMT).
  • Option B: Active credentialing via a recognized national Medical Assistant certification examination (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA).
  • Option C: At least one (1) year of active patient care experience in a clinical environment.
• Software Mastery: Basic computer skills and experience navigating electronic medical record platforms.
• Core Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in at least three (3) practice-category-specific clinical tasks, knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.
• Travel Flexibility: Must be willing and able to travel between regional specialty centers in the Harrisburg and Mechanicsburg areas as needed to support coverage.
