CLIN NURSE 2 – Medical Oncology PCU Department: Jacobs Medical Center 5FG-PCU Location: Jacobs Medical Center Employment Type: Career, 90% Full-Time Salary Range: Annual Full Pay $138,330 – $193,892 (Hourly Equivalent $66.25 – $92.86) Schedule: Nights, 12‑hour shifts, Sunday‑Saturday

DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health is a Magnet‑designated academic health system, recognized for nursing excellence in 10% of U.S. hospitals. Jacobs Medical Center 5FG is a 24‑bed Medical Oncology/Palliative Care Progressive Care Unit providing oncology care and serving as overflow for Blood and Marrow Transplant patients. The unit collaborates with a multi‑disciplinary palliative care team to deliver holistic symptom management. Autonomous nursing care is expected: nurses will independently assess patients, develop care plans, and execute interventions consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Teamwork, critical thinking, and problem‑solving across complex situations are essential. Cover Letter: While not required, a cover letter is highly recommended.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing. Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of California. BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at hire, with commitment to obtain UCSD ART within six months. Chemotherapy certification at hire or commitment to obtain within six months and achieve within one year. Minimum two years recent experience in inpatient oncology (within the last two years). If insufficient, consideration may be given to RN with one year of oncology, palliative care, or IMU/PCU experience. Strong critical‑thinking and problem‑solving skills, capable of handling complex patient scenarios. Ability to function in a fast‑paced environment, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated clinical judgment to identify and implement nursing interventions and evaluate outcomes. Effective communication and influence with staff, physicians, patients, and external constituencies, both verbally and in writing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

BSN degree. Palliative care RN experience. Prior chemotherapy experience. Certification in PCCN, OCN, or Palliative Care.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Must work various hours, days, shifts, on‑call, and locations based on the 24‑hour medical center's needs. Employment subject to criminal background check and pre‑employment physical. Selected candidate may be hired at CNIII level pending review by the Nurse Executive Council.
