Human Resources Generalist

Pay Range: $35.00–$38.00 per hour (approximately $70,000–$75,000 annualized)
Classification: Non-Exempt / Hourly
Schedule: 37.5 hours per week

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Generalist to join our team and provide comprehensive, hands-on HR support throughout the employee lifecycle.

This position is ideal for an experienced HR professional who enjoys a varied role, takes ownership of their work, and is comfortable serving as a trusted resource to employees and managers. The Human Resources Generalist will have broad responsibility for employee relations, workplace investigations, California employment law compliance, leaves of absence, benefits administration, payroll, onboarding, offboarding, and day-to-day HR operations.

The successful candidate will bring 7–10 years of progressive human resources experience , extensive working knowledge of California employment law, excellent judgment, strong communication and documentation skills, and the ability to independently manage sensitive and confidential employee matters.

What You’ll Do

· Serve as a primary HR resource for employees and managers regarding workplace concerns, policies, performance, conduct, and employee relations matters.

· Coach and support managers with performance management, corrective action, and other employee-related matters.

· Conduct and/or coordinate prompt, thorough, objective, and appropriately documented workplace investigations.

· Maintain extensive working knowledge of applicable California employment laws and regulations, as well as relevant federal employment requirements.

· Support compliance with wage and hour requirements, meal and rest periods, paid sick leave, required notices, recordkeeping, and other employment regulations.

· Administer and coordinate employee leaves of absence, including FMLA, CFRA, Pregnancy Disability Leave (PDL), California paid sick leave, and other applicable leaves.

· Support the reasonable accommodation and interactive process in accordance with applicable requirements.

· Administer employee benefits programs and serve as a primary HR contact for employee benefit questions.

· Coordinate annual open enrollment, including employee communications, education, enrollment audits, and system updates.

· Coordinate new hire onboarding and conduct new hire orientation.

· Manage employee offboarding, including exit interviews, termination documentation, COBRA notifications, final payroll coordination, and benefits cessation.

· Process accurate and timely bi-weekly payroll , including review of timekeeping, payroll changes, deductions, reimbursements, bonuses, new hires, terminations, and other payroll-related information.

· Research and assist with resolving payroll discrepancies and employee payroll questions.

· Maintain accurate employee information within HRIS and payroll systems.

· Partner with management, Finance, benefits providers, brokers, vendors, and employment counsel as appropriate.

· Maintain strict confidentiality of personnel, payroll, investigation, medical, and other sensitive information.

· Identify opportunities to improve HR processes and enhance the overall employee experience.

Requirements:

What We’re Looking For

· Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

· PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHRca, or similar professional HR certification.

· 7–10 years of progressive human resources experience , including substantial employee relations responsibilities.

· Extensive working knowledge of California employment law and HR compliance requirements .

· Demonstrated experience handling complex employee relations matters.

· Demonstrated experience conducting and documenting workplace investigations.

· Significant experience administering leaves of absence and supporting the reasonable accommodation and interactive process.

· Experience processing payroll and working with payroll and timekeeping systems.

· Demonstrated experience administering employee benefits programs and coordinating annual open enrollment.

· Experience managing onboarding, conducting new hire orientation, and coordinating employee offboarding.

· Knowledge of COBRA, HIPAA, ACA administration, and benefits-related compliance requirements.

· Strong knowledge of HR policies, practices, and employment lifecycle processes.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Strong documentation, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive or confidential matters.

· Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and professionalism.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and HR technology platforms.
