Payroll Specialist – Fresno, CA Salary: $20–$25 per hour Full‑time hours with overtime opportunities, temporary to hire position, Monday through Friday, on‑site in South Fresno. Job Overview We are a food processing and manufacturing organization seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to manage payroll processing for a diverse client base. The role requires strong knowledge of payroll procedures, regulations, and the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines. Responsibilities Oversee and manage all aspects of payroll processing for union and non‑union employees, including wages, deductions, sick pay, vacation time, and accruals. Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates such as new hires, terminations, and pay rate changes. Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices. Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to auditors. Identify and recommend updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures. Perform monthly, quarterly, and year‑end payroll reconciliations. Work closely with HR and accounting teams to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and statutory compliance. Handle payroll tax, garnishments, union and non‑union issues, and other payroll‑related activities. Participate in special projects as required. Qualifications Minimum of 2+ years of payroll experience or related field. Proficient with Paychex and other payroll systems. Comprehensive understanding of local, state, and federal payroll and tax regulations. Experience with garnishments, union and non‑union payroll, compensation, payroll taxes, employee records, wages, calculations, reporting, and benefits. Exceptional analytical and problem‑solving skills. Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field preferred. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is a plus. Experience in managing and completing projects is required. Benefits Full‑time hours with the possibility to work overtime.
