Senior Accountant

Reports to - Vice President of Accounting This position offers a great opportunity to join a privately held, real estate management and development firm as part of the Accounting department. The Senior Accountant will support property accounting, month-end close, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and day-to-day accounting activities while working closely with property management, accounts payable, and senior accounting staff. The duties and abilities of the position shall include, but are not limited to, the following: Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries for assigned properties. Assist with month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of supporting schedules and work papers. Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, bank accounts, tenant receivables, security deposits, and intercompany balances as assigned. Review property-level activity for accuracy and investigate variances or unusual transactions. Assist in preparing monthly financial statements and reporting packages for external and internal review. Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, and tenant billing processes as needed. Work with property management and other departments to research accounting questions and resolve discrepancies. Analyze property income statements and balance sheets for monthly trends and assist in explaining significant variances. Assist with audit, tax, lender, and owner reporting requests by preparing schedules and supporting documents. Review tax returns and related supporting schedules for assigned real estate entities and assist with resolving tax-related questions or discrepancies. Ensure receipts, expenses, owner distributions, and other transactions are accurately recorded for the accounting period. Follow established accounting procedures and internal controls to help maintain accurate financial records. Participate in special projects and other accounting tasks as assigned. Skills and Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA preferred. Minimum of five years of accounting experience; real estate or property accounting experience a plus. Knowledge of partnership tax return preparation; experience with real estate entity structures preferred. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and commitment to maintaining complete support for accounting entries. Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to research and resolve discrepancies. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a deadline-driven accounting environment. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with strong Excel skills. Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint, Outlook, and cloud-based document management systems preferred. Experience with Yardi Voyager and other real estate accounting or property management software strongly preferred. Albanese Organization is an equal opportunity employer.
