ACCOUNTANT II

Performs advanced professional accounting work under general supervision, ensuring accurate financial records, compliance with GAAP/GASB standards, and timely financial reporting requiring independent judgment and technical expertise. Recording and reconciling financial transactions and ensuring accuracy of ledger accounts. Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with GAAP principles. Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts. Perform monthly reconciliations (cash, balance sheet, bank accounts). Investigate and resolve discrepancies. Produces financial reports and statements for internal leadership and regulatory agencies. Help prepare audit materials and ensure compliance with accounting standards Support budget projections using historical and current data. May handle grants, fixed assets, and tax filings depending on assignment. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities. Prepare reports, maintain records, and provide administrative support to leadership as required. Attend all meetings as required. Maintain relevant certifications and stay updated on industry trends. All other duties as required. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; or equivalent experience. 2–4 years experience of professional accounting experience. Governmental or public-sector accounting (preferred). Knowledge of accounting principles and governmental finance. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to reconcile complex financial data. Maintain high accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to reconcile complex financial data and explain variances. Proficiency with ERP systems (Tyler Munis, Oracle, SAP, etc.). Ability to analyze data, run queries, and communicate across departments. Advanced Excel and reporting tools skills. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Ability to manage confidential information with discretion. Ability to communicate effectively verbally, electronically, and in writing. Ability to organize work, establishes priorities, meet established deadlines, and follow up on assignments with a minimum of direction.
