Volunteer Advocate
Children of the Nations
Job Description
Job Description
Job Description Summary
Children of the Nations (COTN) Volunteer Advocates are a dedicated community of supporters who help advance COTN’s mission by praying, raising awareness, building connections, and encouraging others to become involved in the lives of children around the world .
Volunteer Advocates use their unique gifts, relationships, church connections, and resources to help more children experience the transforming impact of COTN’s ministry. Whether through prayer, child sponsorship, church engagement, or simply sharing the stories and needs of the children we serve, each Advocate plays an important role in helping raise children who transform nations.
As a Volunteer Advocate, you will be connected to the larger COTN ministry, equipped with resources and training, and encouraged to build meaningful relationships with other Advocates, COTN staff, leadership, churches, and your community.
Key Responsibilities (Advocates can serve in one or all three roles)
Sponsorship Advocate
- Help more children by sharing the life-changing experience and mutual impact of child sponsorship with those in your sphere of influence.
Church Advocate
- Keep your church and sphere of influence informed about COTN’s ministry, including stories, opportunities, and current needs.
- Help connect your church with COTN in ways that align with their interests, gifts, and available resources.
- Introduce the mission of Children of the Nations to your church, other churches, family, friends, and greater community.
Prayer Advocate
- Pray faithfully for the children, families, staff, and ministry of Children of the Nations. We believe prayer is a mutually transforming experience for both you and the children as we intercede on behalf of each other. We get to see God answer prayer!
- Receive and respond to regular prayer updates, ministry news, and stories from the countries where COTN serves.
All Advocates
- Meet regularly with other Volunteer Advocates for prayer, encouragement, ministry updates, and celebration of answered prayer.
- Encourage others to become involved with COTN through child sponsorship, prayer, donation drives, Meal Packing Events, Venture Trips, volunteer events, and other ministry opportunities.
- Raise awareness and encourage greater involvement with COTN by helping individuals and churches discover meaningful ways to serve children.
- Participate in meaningful in-person and virtual events, training opportunities, prayer gatherings, and other Advocate activities.
- Build relationships with COTN staff, leadership, and other Volunteer Advocates.
- Utilize COTN-provided tools, training, resources, and ideas to effectively advocate for children and the ministry.
- Faithfully uphold Children of the Nations in prayer and represent the organization with integrity and enthusiasm.
Qualifications and Skills
- Current COTN child sponsorship is a plus but is not required.
- Strong faith in and dependence upon Jesus Christ.
- Active member of a local Christian church.
- Demonstrated and sincere interest in the mission and ministry of Children of the Nations.
- Genuine commitment to serving, advocating for, and praying for children around the world.
- Ability and willingness to invest approximately 1–2 hours per week in the Volunteer Advocate Program.
- Friendly, relational, and approachable demeanor with a willingness to reach out to family, friends, church members, and others in your community.
- Ability to communicate COTN’s mission, ministry opportunities, stories, and prayer needs effectively within your sphere of influence.
- Willingness to participate in Advocate meetings, events, training, and prayer opportunities.
- Strong commitment to uphold and support COTN’s Mission, Vision, Core Values, Operating Principles, and Code of Conduct .
- Willingness to faithfully represent COTN and advocate for children with compassion, respect, and integrity.
Spiritual Commitment
We believe that serving and advocating for children is a mutually transforming experience. Through prayer, sponsorship, service, generosity, and relationship-building, Volunteer Advocates help others live out Christ’s call to love and serve the poor, hungry, sick, and stranger.
Whether you are praying for a child, sharing a story with your church, encouraging someone to sponsor a child, organizing an opportunity to serve, or connecting others to the ministry, your involvement is a tangible way to live out the Good News and help raise children who transform nations.
