Work Schedule Four 10‑hour shifts with no call, no weekends, and no holidays. Job Summary Position works under general supervision to assist oncology patients, families and caregivers to overcome healthcare barriers (including but not limited to social, financial, or physical barriers). Responsible for conducting ongoing assessments of need and facilitating referrals throughout the oncology continuum of care. Using the nursing process and evidence‑based knowledge, the oncology RN provides education and resources to facilitate informed decision‑making by the patient and/or family. Responsibilities Assess and document the physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual health status of patients upon admission, utilizing age‑specific considerations for children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. Perform ongoing assessment of patients’ physiological health status throughout the continuum of care and communicate relevant health status data to other team members and departments. Interpret health status data to anticipate patients’ family and physicians' needs and expectations, develop appropriate plans of care, and utilize critical thinking skills in planning and prioritizing oncology‑nursing care. Identify and implement appropriate nursing interventions, complete accurate and timely documentation, and collaborate with all members of the health‑care team. Evaluate implemented interventions, modify care according to evaluation, document modifications, and prioritize oncology nursing interventions per patient status, physician orders, and guidance. Adhere to appropriate hospital‑based clinic policies, procedures, and standards of nursing practice while delivering oncology‑nursing care. Provide appropriate and timely patient education, complete documentation of education provided, and demonstrate effective communication with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. Supervise, delegate, and coordinate patient‑care assignments of other members of the health‑care team within legal parameters. Prepare for procedures by obtaining supplies and equipment in a timely manner, handle and operate instruments and supplies, and perform safe nursing care cost‑effectively. Serve as technical subject‑matter expert, resource person, and/or preceptor to nursing staff, and complete written clinical performance evaluation forms in a timely manner. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to counts, errors, patient care, relationships, equipment, supplies, and environment, and/or elevate to leadership when needed. Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: Directly interacting with or caring for patients; Directly interacting with or caring for human‑subject research participants; Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or otherwise affecting patient records (including financial records); or Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or otherwise affecting human‑subject research records. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education: Graduate of an approved or accredited nursing program as required by the Texas Board of Nursing (Texas BON 217.1). Experience: One year of nursing experience. Licenses and Certifications: Current Texas (or BNE Compact State) nursing license (upon hire). BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (upon hire).
