Job Opportunity – Registered Nurse, Thoracic Cardiac Vascular (TCV) Acute & Intermediate Care – Virginia

Start Date: September 28, 2026

Location: Virginia

Schedule: Night shift, 36 or 48 hours per week, 13-week assignment. Every other weekend and every other holiday required. Block scheduling cannot be accommodated.

Highlights:

• Specialized 28-bed unit caring for Thoracic, Cardiac, and Vascular surgical patients in both acute care (22 beds, 4-5:1 ratio) and intermediate care (6 IMU beds, 3:1 ratio)
• Diverse case mix including CABG, valve repair/replacement, lung resections, esophagectomy, heart and lung transplants, AAA repair, and vascular procedures
• TIMU provides advanced monitoring for patients including fresh lobectomies, TPA administration, and select cardiac drips with arterial lines
• Epic EMR system required; 36 hours of orientation provided
• Interdisciplinary support including IV teams, respiratory services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and more
• Up to 40 hours of approved time off available during contract (no time off approved around July 4th)

Requirements:

• Active Virginia RN license (may submit with license pending; must be in hand by Wednesday before start date)
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of acute care nursing experience required
• Epic charting system experience required
• Experience with telemetry, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required
• Experience with patient ratios of 4:1 or higher
• Must be willing to float within scope of practice per facility policy
• BSN preferred; previous charge experience preferred
• Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)

Clinical Skills & Specialized Care:

• Post-operative care for open heart surgeries (valves, CABG, septal wall defects) and thoracic surgeries (wedge resection, lobectomy, lung transplant, esophagostomies)
• Management of revascularization therapies including bypasses, endarterectomy, TPA, nurse-driven heparin protocols, and carotid endarterectomies
• Acute heart failure management with aggressive diuresis protocols
• Experience with arterial lines, chest tubes, mediastinal tubes, Jackson Pratt drains, epidurals, and PCA pumps
• Ability to perform independent ECG and manage aggressive insulin protocols (Glucommander system)
• Nurse-driven protocols for heparin, ketamine, and nitroglycerin drips
