Registered Nurse - ICU - 36 hours

The ICU Registered Nurse (RN) provides high-quality, patient-centered critical care to acutely ill adult patients in a fast-paced, high-acuity Intensive Care Unit. Working as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team, the ICU RN delivers comprehensive nursing care using evidence-based practice, advanced technology, and sound clinical judgment to support optimal patient outcomes.

The ICU RN is responsible for continuous patient assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation, while maintaining a strong focus on safety, critical thinking, and compassionate care. This role requires the ability to respond effectively to rapidly changing patient conditions and to communicate clearly with providers, patients, and families.

Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities

Collaborative Patient Care

• Partner with members of the Care Team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered nursing care that meets individual patient needs.

• Conduct patient assessments, develop care plans, and coordinate appropriate team assignments.

• Actively participate in interdisciplinary team meetings.

• Foster professional, respectful relationships that support a positive work environment.

• Evaluate, document, and communicate patient care outcomes.

• Participate in quality assurance and patient satisfaction initiatives.

• Serve as a clinical resource for complex or challenging patient situations and escalate issues as appropriate.

• Support education and competency of team members through participation in training and educational programs.

• Administer medications safely and in accordance with hospital, unit, and nursing policies.

Direct Patient Care

• Provide and document skilled nursing care using evidence-based practice and the nursing process.

• Deliver care in compliance with all hospital, unit, and regulatory policies.

• Administer medications accurately and safely, meeting established outcome measures.

Patient & Family Education

• Deliver education tailored to the patient's care plan and anticipated length of stay.

• Include family members and caregivers in education when appropriate.

• Contribute to the development of patient education materials and presentations.

• Document education outcomes in the medical record.

• Ensure patients and families receive appropriate discharge education and information about community services.

Care Coordination & Length of Stay Management

• Collaborate with the Care Team to manage the patient's hospital stay based on the anticipated length of stay.

• Align care plans with clinical pathways, protocols, and targeted length-of-stay goals.

• Work closely with nurse coordinators, case managers, physicians, and interdisciplinary partners to support timely discharges.

• Coordinate procedures, tests, and consults to avoid delays in care.

• Communicate relevant clinical updates to appropriate stakeholders.

• Monitor length of stay for observation patients and collaborate to ensure appropriate utilization.

• Begin discharge planning on day one for every patient.

• Ensure all patients discharged home receive written discharge instructions prior to discharge.

Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required.

• Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred.

• 1-3 years related work experience preferred

• License Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required.

• American Heart Association - Basic Life support Certificate required. ACLS required for some specific clinical units.

Pay Range:

$37.00 - $95.37

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
