Medical AssistantThe Medical Assistant serves as an integral member of the health services team by stocking and preparing supplies and equipment, providing direct patient care, supporting clinic flow, coordinating and promoting continuity of care, facilitating appropriate delivery of health services, coordinating consultations, and serving as an intermediary between patients and their healthcare provider as part of a multidisciplinary care team to provide a range of patient care services.Essential functions include:Serving as part of a multidisciplinary care team to provide a range of patient care services.Working in collaboration with Medical Providers and other Health Services staff to maintain an effective and efficient program.Facilitating patient access to healthcare.Ensuring examination rooms are clean and properly stocked with up-to-date equipment, non-expired supplies, disposable exam materials, and set up in the same way.Preparing the EMR prior to each visit and assuring that all test results are available for review by the clinician with each visit.Preparing the patient for the clinical visit including taking vital signs, preparing necessary instruments, equipment, etc. as needed for the visit.Ordering and administering vaccines following clinic protocols, places skin tests, and performs laboratory functions including processing as directed by licensed clinical staff.Within MA scope of practice, administering treatments and services as ordered by Medical Provider.Assisting clients in completing paperwork, and assisting nursing staff in obtaining authorizations for imaging referrals, as well as retrieval of reports in a timely manner.Maintaining complete and accurate files documenting all care and services provided in the patient's health record.Monitoring clinic refrigerators and maintaining temperature logs; notifying supervisor of any out-of-range temperatures.Interacting in a professional manner with health services staff and patients.Exercising appropriate judgment and decision-making skills.Using standard office machinery including personal computers and printers in performance of duties.Assisting in data auditing tasks.Participating in staff meetings, agency meetings, planning meetings, and other meetings as needed.Complying with requirements of OSHA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.Other duties as assigned.Job qualifications and experience include:Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people.Prefer three years of experience in direct patient care; preferably in an ambulatory care setting.Basic knowledge of infectious diseases.Basic knowledge of care coordination and navigation throughout the managed care process.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong organizational, detail, and interpersonal skills.Excellent computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office, word processing, Electronic Health Records, and other software systems.Ability to be self-motivated and dedicated to initiating and completing complex tasks.Ability to handle multiple tasks, be detail oriented, and maintain strict confidentiality of medical information.Able to work well independently with minimum supervision.Bilingual skills, a plus (English/Spanish fluency preferred).Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.Training, education, and licensure:Medical Assistant certification/diploma from approved training program required.Current AHA CPR certification.The Los Angeles LGBT Center is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to fostering diversity within its staff.
