The Role Divert is hiring an Associate General Counsel to join the General Counsel as the second member of the legal department. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role. You will work across every area of the business, handling both day‑to‑day legal operations and complex transformational matters. You will be expected to play a senior strategic role within the company. Location Concord, MA (hybrid preferred; open to discussion); occasional travel required What You’ll Do Corporate and transactional matters: Support and, over time, lead work on financings (project finance, corporate finance, and capital raises), M&A and other strategic transactions, working closely with outside counsel and company leadership. Commercial contracts: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including customer and vendor contracts, technology agreements, and partnership arrangements. Outside counsel management: Direct and manage relationships with outside counsel across practice areas, ensuring efficient use of external legal resources and alignment with business objectives. Regulatory and compliance: Monitor and advise on legal and regulatory matters affecting Divert's operations, including finance, construction, operations, waste, transportation, and energy production regulations at the federal, state, and local levels. General legal support: Serve as a trusted advisor to business teams across the company, providing practical, business-oriented legal guidance on a broad range of issues as they arise. What We’re Looking For J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar. 5 to 10 years of legal experience, with a strong foundation in corporate, transactional, and commercial work. A mix of law firm and in-house experience is valued. Experience with or meaningful exposure to financing transactions, M&A, or capital markets. Familiarity with the waste, energy, or environmental sectors is strongly preferred. Candidates without direct industry experience should demonstrate a genuine interest in renewable energy or environmental matters. Comfortable operating as a generalist in a lean legal department, with the ability to move quickly between routine tasks and complex, high-stakes projects. Intellectually curious, resourceful, and able to exercise sound judgment independently. Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to working with business partners at all levels. What’s In It For You The expected base salary range for this role is $190,000-$230,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. Divert also offers equity compensation and a comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate's experience, skills, and other relevant factors.
