Location: Phoenix, AZ | On-site, 5 days/week

Compensation: $120,000–$130,000 base + 5–10% bonus

About the Opportunity

CornerStone Professional Placement is partnering with a growing, multi-location professional services organization seeking an experienced Controller to oversee accounting operations and financial reporting across multiple business units.

This is a hands-on leadership position combining technical accounting, financial oversight, team management, and process improvement. The ideal candidate enjoys owning the numbers, partnering with business leaders, and building processes that support continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the month-end close process across assigned entities, including journal entries, reconciliations, financial statements, and GAAP compliance.
• Oversee accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, collections, and intercompany transactions.
• Prepare and review balance sheets, income statements, cash flow reports, and financial variance analyses.
• Manage revenue recognition, billing, work-in-progress, and related accounting activities.
• Maintain strong internal controls, support audit requirements, and ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Support the accounting integration of new business units, including opening balances, account mapping, and financial systems transitions.
• Lead and develop accounting team members while remaining directly involved in day-to-day accounting work.
• Partner with business leaders to explain financial results, identify opportunities for improvement, and support operational decisions.
• Improve accounting workflows, reporting processes, and efficiency through ERP systems, automation, and AI tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
• Active CPA license or actively pursuing CPA certification with expected completion within 12 months.
• At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including 2 years in a supervisory or management capacity.
• Strong hands-on experience with month-end close, financial statement preparation, reconciliations, internal controls, and US GAAP.
• Strong understanding of revenue recognition (ASC 606) and multi-entity accounting.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with Sage Intacct or a comparable mid-market ERP system.
• Demonstrated experience using AI tools or automation to improve accounting processes and reporting.
• Ability to manage distributed accounting teams and communicate effectively with both financial and operational leadership.

Preferred Experience

• Professional services, public accounting, or multi-entity organizations.
• Private equity-backed or acquisition-driven environments.
• Post-acquisition accounting integration, consolidation, or process standardization.
• Experience developing and improving accounting processes in a growing organization.

Additional Details: This position requires working on-site in Phoenix five days per week.
