Payroll Manager Company: Mission-driven organization providing critical care and support services to individuals and families Compensation: $90,000-$120,000 base Location: Remote (must reside in California) Overview A growing, purpose‑led organization is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to fully own payroll operations across a multi‑site California workforce. This role sits within Finance and requires a confident payroll professional who can operate independently, ensure compliance, and navigate cross‑functional dynamics. Why This Role Stands Out High visibility role owning payroll for a ~200 employee population Mission‑driven environment with strong values and real community impact Direct partnership with Finance leadership Remote flexibility for candidates with strong California payroll expertise Key Responsibilities Own full‑cycle payroll processing for a largely hourly, multi‑site workforce Ensure strict compliance with California wage & hour, payroll tax, and labor regulations Manage semi‑monthly payroll cycles including year‑end processing and reporting Oversee 401(k) deductions, remittance, reconciliation, and related reporting Serve as the primary payroll point of contact across Finance and HR Maintain payroll data integrity and support audit and reporting needs Communicate confidently and push back when necessary to ensure accuracy and compliance Qualifications 3‑10+ years of hands‑on payroll processing experience Deep California payroll compliance experience Multi‑site payroll experience Experience using a modern payroll platform (e.g., Paylocity or similar) Ability to work independently with minimal hand‑holding High attention to detail, discretion, and ownership mindset Experience overseeing retirement plan payroll processes Intermediate Excel skills Prior exposure to finance or accounting teams Benefits Eligibility for discretionary bonuses.
