Job Title: CNC Machinist Job Description
This role supports a busy machine shop by setting up, operating, and adjusting a variety of conventional and CNC machines to produce precision components. You will work from drawings, blueprints, and written instructions to create new and replacement parts for repairs, experimental apparatus, and prototype equipment. The position follows clearly defined procedures and guidelines, and involves routine machining to both ordinary and tight tolerances while ensuring parts meet specified dimensions and quality standards.
Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and adjust conventional machines such as mills, lathes, band saws, grinders, and other precision equipment.
• Produce machined parts using a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Mazak mill machine, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
• Interpret work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials lists, specifications, and reference planes to determine machining requirements.
• Plan assignments, lay out work, and perform set up, operation, and tool adjustments for various numerically controlled and computerized machine shop equipment.
• Work from blueprints, process sheets, and sketches to perform both research and development and production machining tasks.
• Cut and shape metal to precise dimensions, machining parts to ordinary and tight tolerances as required.
• Check machines on an ongoing basis to verify accuracy of settings and make necessary adjustments.
• Inspect machined parts and operations against specified tolerances and quality standards.
• Identify and repair minor machine malfunctions to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.
• Apply basic knowledge of various metals and measurement techniques used in machining processes.
• Follow detailed and defined rules, instructions, and procedures while making straightforward judgments in routine situations.
• Collaborate effectively with team members and support a safe, organized, and efficient machine shop environment.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 5 years of CNC programming experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of conventional machining experience.
• Hands-on experience with CNC Mazak mill machines or similar CNC equipment.
• Ability to set up, operate, and adjust mills, lathes, band saws, grinders, and other precision machinery.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings, process sheets, sketches, and work orders.
• Ability to work to ordinary and tight tolerances and perform precise measurements.
• Basic knowledge of various metals and their behavior in machining processes.
• Capability to check and inspect machining operations against specified tolerances.
• Ability to identify and repair minor machine malfunctions.
• Flexible, patient, and able to work well with others in a team environment.
• Ability to quickly adapt and \"hit the ground running\" in a production setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with Computer Numerical Control (CNC) equipment in a production or R&D environment.
• Familiarity with assignment planning, layout, and tool selection for CNC and conventional machines.
• Comfort working with defined procedures and guidelines, and following detailed instructions.
• Experience in both research and development and production machining tasks is a plus.
• Strong teamwork mindset and willingness to support colleagues and shared goals.

Work Environment
This role is based in a machine shop environment with a focus on CNC and conventional machining. You can expect a production-oriented setting that may involve standing for extended periods, handling metal materials, and operating machinery under standard shop conditions.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Irvine, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $36.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
