Key Responsibilities

As an Orthopedic Physical Therapist, you will have a critical role that includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

• Direct physical therapy treatment aimed at preventing disabilities, relieving pain, and restoring muscle function according to each patient’s customized plan of care.
• Oversee the work of physical therapy assistants to ensure effective delivery of therapy services.
• Conduct comprehensive evaluations of clients’ physical abilities using various diagnostic tests to inform treatment decisions.
• Assess patients’ home environments to recommend modifications that facilitate improved independence.
• Administer manual therapeutic exercises, traction, and massage techniques, as well as implement physical agents for treatment purposes.
• Evaluate, fit, and adjust prosthetic and orthotic devices, advising on necessary modifications in collaboration with the prescribing physician.
• Participate actively in the development and ongoing review of patient care plans, contributing insights from detailed monitoring of patient progress.
• Maintain accurate clinical records including initial evaluations, care plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries, submitting these in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Engage in case conferences with interdisciplinary teams to evaluate total treatment strategies for clients and ensure cohesive care delivery.
• Educate clients and their families about their therapy regimens, including the use of therapeutic devices, to encourage adherence and understanding.

Patient Population / Client Focus

Your work as an Orthopedic Physical Therapist will primarily focus on patients facing musculoskeletal issues, post-surgical recovery, and functional mobility challenges. This role will require you to connect and empathize with patients from various backgrounds, fostering a therapeutic alliance that enhances treatment outcomes. You will also engage with their families to ensure a supportive and understanding environment as patients navigate their recovery process.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will bring the following qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program; a Doctorate in Physical Therapy is preferred.
• A valid and active physical therapy license in good standing in the state of Virginia.
• Current CPR certification, with evidence of ongoing professional development in physical therapy.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and establish rapport with a diverse patient population.
• Strong organizational skills and the capability to complete documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
• A valid driver's license and automobile insurance for travel to local client homes if required.

Preferred Experience

We welcome candidates with at least one year of experience as a physical therapist in an acute care or home care setting. Experience with orthopedic cases will be considered a significant asset, enabling you to enhance patient outcomes effectively.

Compensation and Benefits
