Director Strategic Planning

The Director of Commercial Strategy Development leads enterprise-critical commercial strategy initiatives at Merck's Enterprise Strategy Office. This role involves assessing complex business priorities, developing strategic frameworks, and collaborating cross-functionally with senior leadership to drive commercial value and organizational change.

Responsibilities

Lead development of enterprise-critical commercial initiatives with cross-divisional collaboration
Create and evaluate strategic frameworks, options analyses, and actionable recommendations
Bring external perspectives on industry trends to inform commercial leadership priorities
Partner on therapeutic portfolio strategy, market positioning, and asset launches
Manage internal and external teams while fostering psychological safety and innovation

Requirements

Bachelor's degree required; MBA or PhD preferred
4+ years strategy management consulting from top-tier firm
5+ years biopharmaceutical industry experience with commercial/marketing roles
Demonstrated ability to build data-driven insights and market assessments
Strong influencing and collaborative skills in matrixed organizations
Excellent verbal and written communication with senior executives
