Job Description And Duties Are you an experienced leader looking for a rewarding technical career opportunity? This position supervises a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers and geologists responsible for resolving complex landfill projects. As a Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory) you will have the opportunity to: Provide direction and training to staff who oversee environmental investigations and cleanup activities at properties where hazardous materials, substances or waste were released into the environment. Ensure that the requirements of legal mandates, which DTSC is party to, are implemented in an appropriate manner. Provide guidance on staff’s review of submitted site cleanup related documents (Phase I, Preliminary Endangerment Assessment/Resource Conservation and Recovery Act Facility Assessment, Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis, Site Characterization work plans and reports, Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Studies, Sampling and Analysis Plans, Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessment, etc.), field work oversight, regulatory decision making, and communication with responsible parties, project proponents, external agencies, and the public. Monitor staff’s review of site cleanup-related documents for compliance with applicable standards and requirements, conduct oversight of field work consistent with DTSC approved work plans, and ensure remediation work meets federal and state standards. Provide technical consultation and support to staff on most complex technical issues including investigations, data analysis, removal actions, remedial actions, and implementation of any repair, modification, or improvements to the site. Oversee and assist staff in evaluating appropriate sampling and mitigation techniques, based on state of practice scientific and engineering practices, or as appropriate, use innovative technologies to address unique and/or complex problems.
