Sous Chef

The Sous Chef supports the Chef and kitchen team with food preparation, cooking, and daily kitchen operations for events and shows at the Hippodrome Theater. This position helps supervise the kitchen staff, makes sure food is prepared according to recipes and company standards, and assists with keeping the kitchen ready for service. The work schedule will vary based on the venue's event and show schedule. This is an event/show-based position, and hours will vary depending on the venue's event schedule.

This role pays an hourly rate of $22.00 - $25.00.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparing and cooking food for events and shows.
• Support the Chef with daily kitchen operations.
• Help supervise and lead cooks and kitchen staff during preparation and service.
• Make sure food is prepared according to recipes, portion guidelines, and service needs.
• Assist with food preparation, production, and plating.
• Monitor food during service and communicate any issues to the Chef.
• Help train kitchen employees on food preparation and kitchen procedures.
• Maintain food safety, sanitation, and storage requirements.
• Check food products and supplies and assist with inventory as needed.
• Help make sure kitchen equipment and work areas are cleaned and maintained.
• Assist with opening and closing kitchen duties.
• Work with other departments to support the event and show needs.
• Follow company safety and food handling procedures.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years of previous cooking experience in a restaurant, catering, hospitality, or event setting. Previous experience helping supervise or lead kitchen staff preferred.
• Knowledge of food preparation, cooking methods, and kitchen equipment.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures.
• Ability to follow recipes and portion guidelines.
• Ability to communicate with kitchen staff and management.
• Ability to work during events and shows with varying shifts.
• Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other shifts based on the event schedule.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects as needed.
• Food handlers' or food safety certification may be required based on local requirements.
