Sr Accountant - Financial Reporting

Support Center - IrvingThe Sr Accountant – Financial Reporting is critical in supporting the Company’s financial reporting and technical accounting functions. Reporting to the Manager – Financial Reporting, this position is responsible for preparing financial statements, supporting schedules, analysis, and disclosures, ensuring consistency across all financial reporting documents. This role plays a pivotal part in financial close cycles, audit readiness, and regulatory filings. This role requires cross-functional collaboration between accounting, finance, and operations departments as well as Internal and External Audit to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance within a high-performance accounting function.Major ActivitiesAssist with the preparation of financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP and SEC requirements (10-Q, 10-K, S-1) and tie out, including the accumulation of supporting documentation, ensuring completeness and accuracyTie out presentations and materials prepared by Investor Relations for completeness and accuracySupport IPO readiness activities (as applicable), including drafting S-1 filings, audit coordination, and control enhancementsWork with external auditors to ensure efficient audits and timely filingsDevelop and maintain internal reporting packages for PE sponsors and executive leadershipAssist with researching, documenting, and implementing conclusions regarding technical accounting treatment for non-routine transactions, new accounting pronouncements, and the update of internal accounting policiesAssist in the preparation of annual and quarterly disclosure checklistsEvaluate and enhance accounting processes for efficiency and complianceContribute to the fulfillment of the business partnership role for Financial Reporting, with a focus on process improvement, providing support to the management team and cross-functional and cross-divisional business partnersIdentify opportunities for automation and process improvements in reporting workflows, and support the implementation of solutionsAssist in maintaining reporting checklists, calendars, and documentation to ensure compliance with deadlinesOther duties as assignedMinimum EducationBachelor's Degree in Accounting, or equivalent experienceMinimum Special Certifications or technical skillsCPA or CPA candidate (CPA preferred)Clear and demonstrated understanding of US-GAAP and SEC reporting with the ability to apply knowledgeProficiency in MS OfficeMinimum Type of experience the job requires3+ years of accounting experiencePreferred EducationMaster of Accountancy Preferred Special Certifications or technical skillsExperience at a large international accounting firm (Big 4 strongly preferred)Preferred Type of experience the job requiresExperience with retailApplicants in the U.S. must satisfy federal, state, and local legal requirements of the job.At The Michaels Companies Inc., our purpose is to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration.
