Paid leave is not granted during the summer sessions and staff does not receive benefits of the regular school year (e.g., sick leave, business leave, vacation days). Summer program staff must make a commitment to be present for the ENTIRE program, including all in‑service days, workdays, and student instructional days. Failure to make this commitment may impact future employment with the Summer programs. Job Summary Responsible for working with the Site Facilitator to assist with the coordination of staffing, implementation, and oversight of the program. Lifting may be required as part of the school assignment. Essential Duties / Responsibilities Assist Site Facilitator with the supervision of students to ensure their care and safety, and with the supervision of teachers and staff, evaluating their effectiveness in implementing the instructional program and philosophy. Assist staff in evaluating their instructional strategies to ensure the program is being implemented effectively based on students’ needs and/or Individualized Education Program (IEP). Establish an effective working relationship with staff, students, and parents to ensure a positive school climate. Communicate effectively with teachers, staff, parents, and students. Develop a collaborative working relationship with the host schools’ staff. Comply with AACPS policies/procedures, maintain communication with Central Office, and follow due process in resolving student discipline issues. Provide staff in‑services and materials of instruction (MOI) to teachers and ensure proper care and use of the facility and equipment. Review Student Progress Reports for appropriateness. Convey relevant information to staff regarding students identified with health/medical concerns. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records, case files, etc., as required by program regulations, Board policies, and federal, state, and local laws. Perform other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower. Minimum Qualifications Education Bachelor’s Degree in an applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university. Experience One (1) year previous teaching assignment during the Summer Programs. One (1) year previous experience working with the Summer Programs. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics Excellent writing, organization, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated leadership skills as a member of a multi‑disciplinary assessment team. Ability to use technology (laptops, desktops, specialized assessment and data analysis software). Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse parents/guardians and support their child’s education. Familiarity with instructional technology hardware (document cameras, presenters, SmartBoards). Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to respond to the needs of diverse learners. Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g., video/web conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite). Licenses and Certifications Hold or be eligible for Educator Certification: Standard Professional Certificate I (SPC I) issued by the Maryland State Department of Education. Physical Demands Standing, walking, and talking: over two‑thirds of the time. Sitting: between one‑third and two‑thirds of the time. Keyboarding, climbing, hearing: over two‑thirds of the time. Eye/hand/foot coordination: over two‑thirds of the time. Weight lifting up to 50 pounds: under one‑third of the time. As required by the duties and responsibilities of the position. Work Environment Indoor environment (office, school, or similar): over two‑thirds of the time. Outdoor environment: between one‑third and two‑thirds of the time.
