Registered Nurse - Oncology

Job Description

Job Summary:
Provides comprehensive nursing care to oncology patients within a specialized radiation therapy department. Oversees nursing staff, ensuring adherence to established standards and protocols, while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver optimal patient outcomes.

Responsibilities:

• Assess outpatients receiving radiation therapy by collecting vital signs, pain levels, and medication history.
• Document clinical findings following Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) guidelines.
• Identify patient fall risks and allergies, communicating relevant information to physicians and team members.
• Perform weekly evaluations for radiation therapy side effects, documenting changes and updates.
• Prepare patient charts for initial assessments and follow-up visits, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Assist physicians during procedures such as Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) and Brachytherapy, including preparing exam rooms, taking vital signs, and assisting with instruments.

Qualifications:

• Current RN licensure in the state of practice.
• Minimum of two years recent experience in oncology nursing or radiation therapy.
• BLS/CPR certification from an approved vendor.
• Oncology Nursing Certification (ONC) or Chemotherapy Immunotherapy (CHIM) required.
• Proficient in Epic software system experienced preferred.
• Strong critical thinking and clinical assessment skills.
