Assistant Safety Manager (Construction Based) Schnabel is looking for an Assistant Safety Manager to protect the most valuable part of our business – our people. We are leaders in underground construction and have been in operation since 1959. Safety is a key part of our culture. We want to add another forward thinker who will keep our people safe. This is a full‑time position and requires extensive travel to project sites throughout the Mid‑Atlantic area. Role The Assistant Safety Manager is uniquely positioned within the company to have maximum impact on employee safety and productivity. This is achieved using a dual reporting arrangement. The Assistant Safety Manager reports directly to the Area Operations Manager on a daily and weekly basis. They collaborate with the operations team to help our employees safely build our work. The Assistant Safety Manager also reports and is accountable to the Corporate Safety Director. This ensures alignment with company‑wide safety standards, processes, and initiatives. The dual reporting nature of this arrangement positions the Assistant Safety Manager close to the people they are protecting. It also provides them with the support they need to do their job. Responsibilities Work in a team environment to oversee and make decisions related to project safety, health, and environmental policies such as: Assist operation managers with project specific requirements Create Job Hazard Analyses for project specific tasks, review them with the project team and make any necessary changes as needed before or during work activities Job site visits to support field personnel and conduct safety audits on personnel, equipment, and materials Evaluate, recommend, and implement safety procedures and policies for the benefit of employees Research and implement new materials handling processes Analyze accident reports and evaluate injury case studies based on available facts Prepare and conduct internal safety training sessions Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards (OSHA, MSHA, EPA, etc.) Research regulations and policies and institute changes to ensure compliance Track incident metrics and apply findings Lead injury and incident investigations and evaluations Travel required, including substantial amount of field visits Requirements Bachelor’s degree in safety science is preferred but not required 3 years of experience in the construction industry Strong interpersonal and communication skills Knowledge of OSHA, MSHA and EPA standards regarding construction Ability to train, influence and motivate team members Ability to speak, read and write both Spanish and English preferred but not required Self‑motivated, great time management skills, strong work ethic and business integrity Safety Support the company’s safety and risk management objectives by adhering to established procedures, proactively identifying, and addressing potential risks, and contributing to the achievement of safety goals through the use of metrics and continuous improvement efforts. GeoStructural Engineer Schnabel is seeking a GeoStructural Engineer to play a critical role in the design and execution of complex geotechnical and structural systems for deep foundation and earth retention projects. This position bridges the gap between structural and geotechnical engineering, requiring a strong technical understanding of soil‑structure interaction and a practical mindset focused on constructability. Our typical scope of work includes installation of piles, lagging, walers, tiebacks, and braces for support of excavation projects. We also take on challenging projects with underpinning, grouting, tunneling, and unique structural support as part of our scope. Candidates having direct construction experience and familiarity with our company’s traditional scope of work are preferred. Responsibilities Develop and prepare engineering calculations and designs for geo structural systems, including earth retention, underpinning, grouting, deep foundation, drilled shafts, ground improvement, soil stabilization, and other means and methods. Analyze subsurface conditions, structural loads, and project constraints to determine optimal solutions. Collaborate with stakeholders during the proposal, design, and construction phases. Provide input on equipment selection, site logistics, and installation methods based on design requirements. Conduct site visits to assess conditions, verify design assumptions, and ensure implementation accuracy. Participate in design reviews, progress meetings, and project handoffs to ensure alignment across departments. Contribute to safety planning through identification and mitigation of engineering‑related site hazards. Participate in research, development, and pilot projects to explore and implement innovative solutions. Requirements 2 years of experience in geotechnical, structural, or geostructural engineering roles. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field is required. Experience in the design and construction of earth retention systems, deep foundations, drilled shafts, ground improvement scope, soil stabilization scope, and underpinning scope. Strong analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to pass pre‑employment drug test. Local and regional travel as required for projects. Ability to climb, kneel, and work from heights or within confined spaces during assigned shift. Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds of materials over rough terrain. Driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a safe driving record. Follow all safety procedures, use proper protective equipment, and help maintain a safe job site by identifying and reporting potential hazards. Our goal is to find a Geotechnical Drill Operator or Equipment Operator with experience in the safe operation of tieback and micropile drills (Klemm, Comacchio, Hutte) related to geotechnical construction. Heavy preference to those that can operate vertical drill rigs (Bauer / Liebherr). Job Responsibilities Responsible for safe and proper operation of drill rigs and associated equipment Follow all of Schnabel’s safety regulations Complete inspection and maintenance logs, and documentation as required Clean drill rigs, trucks, and equipment Work closely with site leadership to ensure that scope of work is being met within a timely schedule Manage scope of work to minimize job cost Always wear appropriate PPE as assigned by job site supervisor Travel with crews within a regional area Qualifications Proven ability to operate mentioned equipment proficiently and safely Minimum of 2 years of documented experience operating drill rigs proficiently High level of focus in a construction environment that is very busy and noisy Current certification for vertical and/or tieback drill rig or willing to obtain certification Ability to lift and carry 80 pounds of materials over rough terrain Regional travel and the ability to stay out of town frequently High school diploma or equivalent Driver’s license and a safe driving record – preferably with CDL Pay will be based on local union wage scales. Foreman / Superintendent Schnabel is looking for a Project Foreman or Superintendent with experience coordinating and directing crews. The role’s main responsibility is to ensure the successful installation of our geostructural solution on time and under budget. The work is to be built in accordance with plans, specifications, and agreed upon scope of work. You will also mentor and develop our field staff.
