Payroll, Benefits, and HRIS Specialist

Employees may work remotely up to two days per week, and a minimum of three days is required on-site at the Westbrook, Maine office. Responsibilities Execute, oversee, and maintain the end-to-end payroll process for a 400-person company, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all federal and state regulations. Oversee the Paylocity HRIS platform, identifying and implementing enhancements to ensure system optimization and act as a system administrator and subject‑matter expert. Manage the administration of all employee benefits, from open enrollment and new hire enrollment to ongoing support and employee inquiry resolution—including health, dental, vision, and life insurance, the retirement plan, and time‑off and leave programs. Administer pay practices, time and attendance policies, and PTO plans. Maintain employee records to ensure accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality. Lead the administration of the Work Anniversary recognition program, birthday bonuses, and other recognition opportunities. Required Skills Act as a proactive self‑starter by identifying and implementing opportunities to automate manual processes and improve workflows across payroll and benefits administration. Proactively identify and recommend updates to payroll software, systems, processes, and procedures to increase efficiency and enhance reporting capabilities. Demonstrate ability to operate with limited supervision, take initiative, and drive projects to completion in a fast‑paced environment. Show a track record of managing vendor relationships, implementing HRIS projects, and acting as a trusted advisor. Maintain an unwavering commitment to accuracy and data integrity in all HR, payroll, and benefits processes. Effectively communicate complex financial and regulatory information to employees at all levels of the organization in an understandable manner. Salary Range Salary starts at $75,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Job Office Location Westbrook, Maine Requirements Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field (preferably Business, Human Resources, Accounting, or Finance) or equivalent experience. At least five years of experience performing duties similar to those listed. Paylocity HRIS system experience strongly preferred.
